When you've selected multiple tasks that have different tags, the tags toolbar dropdown can display up to three different states for tags:

1. Checkmark indicates all selected tasks have this tag.
2. Minus indicates only some selected tasks have this tag.
3. Empty indicates no selected tasks have this tag.

Adding or applying a tag will keep all the selected tasks' existing tags.
