Team Collaboration and Task Delegation

bsweeney1977 says:
The only thing keeping me from using RTM for my team at work is that I don't appear to have the ability to delegate tasks to my contacts and receive updates when those tasks are completed. It would also be cool if we could add comments to a delegated task, or a conversation string discussing problems or progress with said task. I think something like that would really help RTM make inroads into the corporate world. Thoughts?

I'm surprised this doesn't have more discussion. Group/team collaboration using RTM would seem to be a killer feature, dramatically increasing the footprint of this kind of app. I know I'd have all of my team using it.

me too. Sadly I just spent ALL weekend moving tasks over from another tool, because of the feature that supposedly I could share a task _list_ amongst my team, where each task could be assigned to an individual on the team (or reassigned by any one of us) but we could all see each other's tasks and progress and notes.

Imagine my consternation after moving all these tasks and deleting them from the old app (and canceling the account) to find out that after putting together the task lists, creating the contacts, having my colleagues accept the invitations, explaining to them some basics of using RTM, putting them into a Staff group and sharing my lists to that group ... NOW WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE EQUALLY FOR ALL TASKS.

this is NOT a collaboration tool!!!

If you use smart lists and tags, can't you suppress the items that re not yours and wind up with targeted lists? My wife and I do so, and it works like a charm.

[I would love notifications when things were done, I guess, but it's not too hard to look at her list and see what's open. I guess for large groups that would be more of an issue.]

this would be an amazing feature

all I do right now is have the persons name at the front of the task name

eg. "Sami: do this"

another thing that would be great is to have it so multiple RTM accounts are not needed, but still having the ability to create a team, assign tasks, setup SMS alerts for the individuals tasks and then create an administration password system for changing various settings.

so all thats needed to get someone plugged into the RTM world is to give them the team account access details, and then away they go using it on their BlackBerry, iPhone, or whatever.

Hey ranbarton,

I am trying to set something like this up with my wife. Would you mind shedding light on how you do this? Do you use the "share" feature and tag it with a name, or do you use the send feature.

Could you email me so I can get some help on this. jonthanc at clip dot com

I have to agree. I love this tool, but it's more of a granular personal todo list than a team collaboration system. This worked beautifully for me, but now that I'm running my own business, I have to migrate to something more collaborative (and more expensive). If RTM introduced some sort of collaboration/project management layer (and even charged extra for it) I'd definitely consider staying.

This idea is considered similar to "Assign tasks to others", and all votes have been transferred to that idea.
