ipod/iphone interface not tied to Safari

(closed account) says:
Hi all

I am sorry if this has been discussed before but I was just wondering why the ipod/iphone interface is tied to safari? I know that is the only browser that is on these devices but what if I have a different device with a capable browser that would work really well with the optimised interface (it looks better than the basic mobile interface)? This is a paid feature so why not open it up and allow us to connect from anything? The reason I ask is because I use the google reader ipod interface on my mobile device because I prefer it to their 'normal' mobile interface. It works really well and I think the RTM one would too.

Many thanks

I guess that this isn't something that most people are too fussed about which is fair enough. It isn't anything major. I currently use the free RTM account but I have to say the ipod/iphone interface is one thing that would make me upgrade to the pro account if I could use it.

Go on, remove the need for safari on the ipod/iphone interface and give me an excuse to upgrade to a pro account :-)

Cheers
