Turn off automatic due date recognition

When I enter a task

The very last thing in the world I want if for Remember the Milk to set the task for February 2017.....it will be too late.

Can we turn this clever little thing on and off?

Yes, you can disable this in the web app's Account Settings, in the General section, with the "Date Detection" setting.
