Habit Tracking

claes.lillieskold says:
Hi,
Thanks for a Great service! I'm using it to introduce some GTD
in my life and work, in combination with Gmail.

But I'm missing something that may not necessarily be RTM, but
would like to know if someone else is also interested in.

I have some habits that I want to develop, and would like
to have some good tools for.

Lets say this list:
* Visit grand mother 5 times each month.
* Exercise 3 times each week.

What I need from a tool, supporting me to develop new habits is:

1. A way to describe what the new Habit is, how often I should
exercise the habit, and during which occuring time.
2. A simple way to record when I have performed the habit.
Let's say I had some excercise today, it should be simple to add.
3. A way to remind me. For example, its already Wednesday, but
you have exercised once.
4. Some kind of statistics for each of the different habits.

If possible, I would not like to have an extra tool for this.
Using Gmail, gcalendar and RTD is enogh. It would be unGTD:ish
to have a new tool.

Before someone who just skimmed through this post suggests
something I would point out that:

A. It is not a calendar system. I do not want to add my habit
permforming in advance. Possibly, I could add it afterwards,
but the actual time is seldom important, and the calendar doesn
give me (4) statistics.
B. It is not a reocurring task. Possibly, the task would remind me
after each habit period to try to remember how many times
I performed the new habit. But that would only help me with (3),
and for the rest, I would need another system.

Please, If you have some Ideas, share them with me.
I think I just paper and pen this tool for now, and maybe start
hacking something with GreaseMonkey when I have the time.

regards,
Claes

I like the idea of a calendar view I can work in. I feel RTM can already easily handle the concept of habits. RTM is wonderfully flexible.

I use a list called Habits all by itself. Then I setup up the tasks (habits) to Repeat every day, week, month, and year. I use the tags: -habit, @improvement. Then it shows up in my @Today SmartList everyday. It works like a champ!

Tasks
Review Not Tagged and Waiting list (everyday)
Dishes, Trash, Laundry (everyday)
Exercise 20 minutes a day (everyday)
Check Internet Deals sites (every 3 days)
Record Food intake (everyday)
Record weight (every Sunday)
Transfer money to savings (every payday)
Submit Expenses (every month)
Submit Timecard (every week)
Revise business goals (every month)
Revise personal goals (every month)
Review Job trends (every 6 months)
Catch up with various business contacts (every 2 months)
Date Night Reminder (every 2 weeks)
