RTM Mobile: Back to Menu Requires Login

rosquito says:
I get on to RTM Mobile and click a link in the browser. Once I click on the Back to Menu at the bottom, it forces another login. I try to login again and it just gives me the login screen again. I've got the "Remember Me" checkbox checked. What else can I do?
Thanks,Brian

Brian, can you please let us know the brand/model of your phone. Also, are you using your phone's default browser? Thanks!

rosquito says:
Hi Emily,
The phone is a Cingular 2125 using the default ie browser for Windows Mobile 5.0 for Smartphone OS. Thanks!

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
Hmm, this phone should be supported -- would you be able to try the secure HTTPS URL and see if this works?

Thanks!

rosquito says:
wooHOOO! That works fine. Thanks!

david.hogg says:
On a Toshiba e750 PDA it does not work either with or without the secure URL.

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
David, thanks for this report. Can you please let us know what happens when you try to access the mobile version on the e750? Does it have the problem that Brian described above, or does it have another issue? Thanks!

david.hogg says:
Well, it now seems to work correctly with the Toshiba e750. So my message was a false alarm. It was probably the strength of the WiFi signal that was causing the problem. And it works with or without the secure URL. Thanks for the response, Emily, and sorry for my misreporting!

david.hogg says:
I must say RTM has one of the best mobile interfaces I've come across so far. And it is invaluable to have access to tasks on the PDA.
I only have one small comment. In the list of tasks to be preformed, there is numbering from 1 up. In each case (1, 2, 3 ...) the number occupies a whole line (at least on my screen). I don't quite see the point of these numbers. It seems to me that they are something we could do without.

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
David, glad that it's working for you.
The numbers act as shortcuts on a mobile device's keypad (pressing #1 will go to the first task in the list, #2 to the second, etc). However, they shouldn't take up the whole line (they should be right next to each list item like this) -- it may be an issue with display for the e750, so we'll check this out.

david.hogg says:
It may be a display problem with the e750, as you say. Of course, the other point is that the e750 doesn't have a keypad. Numbers are available with an onscreen keypad. I will experiment to see if the link can be used that way. If it can, it will be very useful. Thanks.

david.hogg says:
I find that the onscreen cannot be used for shortcuts, as apparently a phone keypad can. I don't quite understand why.
Also, I don't quite understand the following sentence, quoted from your blog item:
"rest assured that you can always fire up your phone's browser and access Remember The Milk"
I don't understand how the phone browser can be 'fired up" from anywhere; it must surely require a WiFi connection as a precondition. This is in fact the main inconvenience of an otherwise excellent mobile system. The fact, that is, that the to do lists are not available everywhere, but only in places where there is an available Internet connection.

Miraculously, I now have the numbers on the same line. I don't know how this happened. But it does not seem possible to use the numbers as shortcuts on a Toshiba e750.

David, thanks for letting us know.
Regarding access, many phones are able to access the Internet via the mobile network (so WiFi is not required). If you have a phone that supports web access (it will usually have a browser pre-installed), then you may need to check with your mobile provider to see if you have a data plan that allows you to browse the web on your phone. This will allow you to access websites from anywhere that your phone works. Hope this helps!

david.hogg says:
Yes, thanks, it certainly does help! I suppose one problem for me is that I am using a Toshiba e750, which is an excellent machine but not a mobile phone. And it does not have a keypad.
Another problem is (or rather was) that I was trying to use the Mozilla Minimo browser. I have now installed the Operal Mobile browser. The former still seems to have enormous teething problems, whereas the latter works absolutely fine.

On an LG 8000 Verizon, Openwave browser, saving the username/password between separate sessions is not working for me with "remember me" checked and using the http and secure https. The site itself once I log in works great and stores the password as I jump between tasks and back to the menu. Gmail and GReader store between sessions. Is this not something that RtM does? Anyone else with Verizon or Openwave have this problem?

emily (Remember The Milk) says:
andersryerson, thanks for letting us know. We're not aware of any problems with the Openwave browser, but this is something we can check out -- which version of Openwave are you using?
Also, have you tried the Opera Mini browser? The mobile version tends to work well with this browser, so it may be worth trying.

I also experience this, where my login information is not saved between sessions.

Equally unfortunate is that Verizon's phones are locked into using this particular browser.

I had the password problem with Opera Mini and an old LG. I think it was provoked by changing my password.
I got around it by installing Opera Mini 3 Beta http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/operamini/beta/
however I reckon a simple delete/reinstall would do it or deleting/resetting your cookies.
