Sync Safety

p.a.conway says:
I just tried out RTM MilkSync on my WM6 PPC.

I deleted a task on the PPC.
I then modified the same task on the RTM web site.
I did a sync via MilkSync.
The delete overrode the modification.

I see this as a very bad practice.
The modification contributed additional information.
That information was wiped out by the delete.

The person doing the delete might not be aware that
the task might be modified elsewhere. The safer
practice is to let the modification override the delete.
This was the general practice with Palm PDAs, but
seems less so on PPCs, and I think Palm were right.

I think you should provide an option to make sync safer by
letting a modification prevail over a delete. Furthermore,
this should apply whichever side did each of the operations.
Better still, make it always work the safe way.

What do you think?

p.a.conway says:
Further to my own posting...

I have just tried modifying the same task differently on
the web site and on my PPC, then doing MilkSync.

The modification made on the web site, which was done
slightly later than the modification on the PPC, prevailed.

There was no offer to retain both versions.
And nor do I see a config option for forcing MilkSync to do so.

This is not safe. Not good practice.
