Receive an email when something is posted to my inbox

No, this isn't possible, though you could subscribe to an Atom feed for the items in the Inbox, which would show any new additions. (If you use your Inbox for other things, you could create a Smart List that's more specific and subscribe to the Atom feed for that.)
