Cannot specify due date anymore in task description

I know this works via the Google extension -- however I am almost positive that for a periiod of time about a week ago it was working directly in RTM task entry.
For example:
Call mom on Friday
Call mom next Friday
When entered directly to RTM task list was appropriately scheduling the task with the date.
Now when I use those keywords the task comes through verbatim with no due date.
Anyone else noticing this?

It is my understanding that this feature has never been enabled for task entry on the RTM web site, despite repeated suggestions for years to establish some sort of functionality along these lines.
