Gmail RTM pane gone

current problem: i'm not able to see the RTM pane in Gmail in either Firefox or Chrome, the latter being my primary browser. is this a known issue? This has been the case for at least 3 days now. I don't know what version of gmail im using as I can't see the "Tasks" option in settings.

Gmail version 19984805 has stopped working.

I had the same problem for a few days with version 19984805 and it just started working for me again this morning. (~8:00 AM EDT)
