General

Do I need a Pro account to use MCP?

Yes — a Pro account is required to use Remember The Milk MCP. Some AI tools may also require their own paid plans to support MCP connections. Check your AI tool’s pricing for details.

How is my data handled?

When you connect an AI tool to Remember The Milk, it can read and manage your tasks — that’s what makes it useful. You sign in directly through Remember The Milk using OAuth 2.0, so your password is never shared with the AI tool, and all communication is encrypted. You can disconnect at any time by removing the server from your AI tool’s MCP settings.

What can the AI do with my account?

Your AI assistant has the same access you do in the Remember The Milk app. It can read, create, update, and delete tasks, lists, tags, notes, locations, reminders, and contacts. It can also manage your settings and run MilkScript automations. See the full list of tools for details.

Can I undo something the AI did?

Yes! Just ask your AI assistant to “undo that” and it will reverse the last action. This works for most operations, including task updates, completions, deletions, and batch operations. You can also undo changes directly in the Remember The Milk app.

How do I disconnect or revoke access?

Remove the Remember The Milk server from your AI tool’s MCP settings. This immediately stops the AI tool from accessing your account. Check the connection guide for your specific app if you need help finding the setting.

Troubleshooting

My AI tool isn't listed

Any tool that supports the Model Context Protocol should work with Remember The Milk. Check your tool’s documentation for how to add a remote MCP server — most accept either a URL directly or a JSON configuration.

If your tool doesn’t support MCP yet, consider reaching out to its developers to request it.

Why doesn't Remember The Milk MCP work with my AI tool?

Our MCP uses structured content, which sends your tasks in a machine-readable format so AI tools can understand them reliably. Some AI tools don’t support this format yet, so the Remember The Milk MCP only works with tools that do.

If your AI tool doesn’t support structured content, the MCP connection may not work correctly or may not be available.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Check your AI tool’s documentation to see whether it supports structured content in MCP.
  • If it doesn’t, consider contacting the AI tool’s support team or developers to request support for structured content.
I can't connect to the MCP server

Here are a few things to try:

  • Make sure you’re connected to the internet.
  • Double-check that the server URL is exactly https://www.rememberthemilk.com/mcp
  • Make sure Remember The Milk is set up in your app:
    • Claude Code: Run claude mcp list and check that rememberthemilk is listed.
    • Claude Desktop: Open Settings → Connectors and check that Remember The Milk is listed.
    • ChatGPT: Open Settings → Apps & Connectors and check that Remember The Milk is listed.
    • Cursor: Open Settings → Tools & MCP and check that the server shows a green status.
  • If all else fails, try removing the server from your app and adding it again.
I'm getting a "needs authentication" error

This means Remember The Milk needs you to sign in again. This can happen if your session has expired or if the initial sign-in wasn’t completed.

  • Try using any Remember The Milk MCP tool — your browser should open automatically so you can sign in.
  • If that doesn’t work, try disconnecting and reconnecting: look for a “Clear authentication” or “Disconnect” option in your app’s MCP settings, then reconnect the server.
My AI assistant isn't showing any RTM tools

Here are a few things to try:

  • Check that Remember The Milk shows as connected in your app’s MCP settings.
  • If you’re using a desktop app (Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.), try restarting it after making any changes to the MCP configuration.
  • Some apps require you to enable or select tools from a connected server — check your app’s MCP tool settings to make sure the Remember The Milk tools are turned on.
I'm getting "permission denied" when using tools

Some apps ask you to approve each tool call before it runs. You can either approve them one at a time, or set up auto-approval:

  • Claude Code: Add "mcp__rememberthemilk__*" to the permissions.allow array in .claude/settings.json.
  • Claude Desktop: Click Allow when prompted, or click Allow always to skip future prompts for that tool.
  • ChatGPT: Read-only tools are approved automatically, but actions that create or modify tasks will show a confirmation prompt. Click Allow when prompted, or click Always allow to skip future prompts for that tool.
  • Cursor: Enable Auto-approve for Remember The Milk in Settings → MCP, or approve each tool when prompted.
The server keeps disconnecting or timing out

A couple of things to try:

  • Make sure your app is updated to the latest version. Some older versions may not support remote MCP servers.
  • Try removing the server from your app and adding it again.
  • If you’re seeing intermittent disconnects, your network or firewall may be interrupting the connection. Try switching to a different network to see if that helps.
