Using RTM For My Watch List

scotto says:
It's after dinner. The dishes are done. Time to relax and watch something on the TV. Maybe it's bedtime but I still want to watch part of a movie or a TV show while the wife zones out to the Late Show. But what to watch?

Remember The Milk to the rescue. Using my "Watch List" list and related smart lists on my handy iPod Touch RTM app, I can solve that pretty easily.

First I create a list called "Watch List" and enter all the current DVDs, Tivo'd TV shows and downloaded Video Content into it. I have tags "netflix", "dvd", "tv", ipod" and "tivo" for this. If the show is to be watched live (or immediately after wards so as to zap the ads) I add the Day, Time and Channel. I also adjust the priority based on how much I want to see it now vs. later.

Next I create Smart Lists for "Watch DVD", "Watch Tivo", "Watch TV" and "Watch on iPod". The search criteria is to look for the list "watch list" and the relevant tag such as "dvd" for the "Watch DVD" smart list or "ipod" for the "Watch on iPod" smart list.

Now when I open up the RTM app on my iPod, I first check the Today list list to see if there's anything on that night. Next I check my DVD and Tivo lists to see what's up on there without having to go thru the stack of DVDs on the coffee table or cranking up the TiVo menu. Obviously when it's time for bed, I can open the "Watch on iPod" list.

This is also great for keeping track of which episode I'm on when going through those TV season DVD packs. For instance if the last Dexter episode I watched was the 2 episode of the 3rd season, I enter Dexter 302 in the watch list and complete it. When I see Dexter 303 as the next on the list for Dexter, I know that's the next one to watch.

Now when spring arrives I'll have to set up some outdoor fitness lists, but until the TV seasons end, it's TV time, helped by RTM.
