Blogging on the go using RTM and a Blackberry/smartphone
tenthousandleaves says:
Being a college student, I find it hard to keep up with the things that I am passionate about - generally, it is hard to fit personal desires in with the need to do well in school. Especially considering I have very late night classes and I have work when I don't have class, there's hardly any room for anything else in my life.
RTM has already been a lifesaver for me when it comes to organizing what homework and office assignments I might have - I make a task for every little assignment that I have, with times set as the same as the class itself. Every night/morning, I check the synced tasks on the Blackberry Bold and see what I have to do for tomorrow/today.
However, I have managed to take this to the next level and utilize RTM and my Blackberry to help me do something I seemingly never have the time for - posting on my blog.
NOTE: I derive some of these steps from a previous tip/trick by user soloviov, in a post that made the RTM blog entitled "Remember the Blog."
It goes like this:
- I made tasks for various sections of my blog:
- musings, which I have made to be a quick blogging site
- thoughts, a section for more structured, editorial-like writings
- photos
- videos
- poetry, where I post my spoken word poetry
- I made the 'musings' task repeat daily, due by 11:59pm each night; the other tasks I have just made repeat weekly and due at the end of each Saturday ('musings' is more of an "as the thoughts come to me" kind of blog, circa Tumbler, that I envision as a page updated daily)
- As the tasks sync to my phone, I focus on musings and type anything that comes to mind in the task notes
- When the day is over, I use my Blackberry to post-via-email to my blog, emailing the task (erasing all task info except the notes section, which becomes my body text) to my website and BAM, new post.
- I complete the task on my phone and the next musings task comes up in the morning, where I can make yet another post to type, edit, and email - all using my phone and the magic that is RTM!
(BTW, as far as making sure the sync doesn't clutter the notes section of the task with all my musings, I delete all notes on RTM when I have the chance to log on using a computer.)
This way, I can uphold my desire (which, up until now, has been left unfulfilled) to update my blog daily. This is likely possible with many smartphones, though this focus is on my Blackberry Bold (which, if you haven't noticed, I love).
I hope this tip is useful for anyone using RTM with a smartphone that blogs too. Thanks for reading!
P.S. (WARNING: Cheap plug!)
