As a full time husband and father of two, I find it necessary to use Remember the Milk. It helps me to achieve a life/work balance that brings me success in many of the things that I set out to accomplish.
This next week adds a bit of a challenge to my well balanced life. I set off to begin an online course in economics. I'm not speaking of your basic level economic course... I'm speaking of a masters level course where a letter-grade below a "B" is considered failing. I cannot take any chances.
My professor posted the semester calendar and due dates today. Using RTM, I created a new list called ECON5136.
On RTM, I head on over to the newly created list and begin entering my assignments.
According to the syllabus, my first assignment is to read a document called "Macro Theory Review". The assignment is due on January 28.
Now, the last thing I want to do is to enter the assignment due date into RTM. Instead, I enter a date that provides me with enough time to actually read the document. This document is quite lengthy so I will enter a date of January 21 into the task on RTM. When January 21 comes around, the task jumps to the top of my ALL TASK list.
It is still important to take note of the actual due date so I enter that as a note attached to the task.
Using my syllabus and the semester calendar, I enter all of the tasks into RTM for the semester now. It takes an hour (I have many assignments) but thats an hour well spent.
Throughout the semester, I refer to RTM for a list of all of my assignments. Hopefully, at the end of the semester, I pass with an A in the course.

srburk, you could also use sleeper tags to "wake" your assignment tasks a week before they're due and still use the due date field to capture when they're actually due.
