New Years Resolutions with goals and subtasks

(closed account) says:
I had this idea, and thought I'd share it in case others find it useful:

I've been thinking recently about what I want to achieve or improve on over the next year, and thought it would be handy to track this in RTM.

RTM doesn't have subtasks/projects, but I have found a way around this and it works quite well when setting goals.

So this is how I've done it:

• I created a new list called goals
• In this list I've added "tasks" which pertain to my goals for 2010
• I then tagged these using my projects+goals tag √project-name
• I also set tags based on the area of responsibility (google GTD for more on this)
• I set the priority of the main goal task as 1, and any subtasks I will set to 2. This means (as you will see below), that the goal will always appear at the top of my project-specific smart lists, with all its associated subtasks listed below it.

So the goals list ends up looking like this:

And you can see the goals in my tag cloud:

I can then click on any of those goals in the tag cloud to see a smart list for that goal/project:

I think this should work quite well. There's not much to the lists yet, but as I progress, more and more "subtasks" will be added to each one, and I reckon this will be a good method to help me achieve these goals. Time will tell...

I love your idea!!! It's funny because certain computer certifications are also a couple of my goals. It's exactly what I've been trying to do with other goal setting apps, with no luck. However, I'm lost/confused on your second and third steps. ("I then Tagged these using my projects+goals tag project-name") and ("I also set tags based on the area of responsibility (google GTD for more on this)"). Could you please go into more detail and expand on the steps you took to achieve this. I've tried following you steps, and my cloud doesn't end up looking anything like yours with the "areas", "contexts" "lists", "projects+goals". What have I missed?

Thank you!!!
