A Fluid RTM
shocm says:
So this is probably old hat but I thought I would post it anyways. If you run OSX there is an application called Fluid (http://fluidapp.com/) which allows you to create a "application" out of just about any website. I've create several for GMAIL, Y!Mail, Google Voice, and or course Remember The Milk.
So with my RTM application I actually created two. A desktop application that points to my account using the main RTM URL which is where I spend a lot of my time. Works great.
I also created what is referred to as a Menubar SSB app. With that version of the application I actually ended up using the RTM Service URL for iGoogle. What this gives me is a cool RTM icon in my menu bar which I can click on and get my RTM list and interact with it. It's great when I just need to quickly reference it or add something to it.
You can do things like adjust the transparency and size to both applications under the application preferences.
Here is a screenshot of it all in action - http://img.skitch.com/20090901-dqkbme1rma21uw4pqdhri48m79.jpg (sorry for having to black out so much but I use my RTM a lot and it has some sensitive work related information on it)
Fluid is inspired by another open source Mozilla project called Prism (http://labs.mozilla.com/prism/) which runs on other platforms like Linux and Windows so you can do something similar there.
Hope you find this helpful and remember to "go Pro" and support the RTM team.

Hi I tried using the RTM Service url for iGoogle url to create a SSB like you did, but all I get is a blank window.
Any help you can offer?

Use http://www.rememberthemilk.com/services/modules/googleig/ (i.e., chop off the rtm.xml part).
I've used this successfully with fluid and with chrome. I like it a lot -- much less obtrusive and uncluttered view of my tasks than the full web app.

I am also using fluid and enjoying it. Glen, have you tried using SSB on the regular http://rememberthemilk.com page? That is what I am using.

Hey I got it to work. I dropped the .XML Thanks for the help. I also got it wofking for the regular page. Now to get to remeber my login info.

Glen,
In the preferences there is a setting to ask the app to stay logged in when minimized. (Sorry I don't have my mac laptop at work and can't tell you the exact language of the preference.)

So I noticed last night that in the fluid app, when I click on any of the links at the top of the page, like Settings, it opens a new window in my browser! I want it to stay within the Fluid window. Has anyone else seen this problem, and is there a workaround?

I've been using RTM in Fluid for ages but had no idea about the menubar app. This is fantastic, thanks heaps for the tip, shocm.
Can anyone confirm that "stay logged in" option, or is there a way to achieve the same with 1Password so as never to have to log in?

David,
In the application preferences you can set it so that the links you click open in the SSB.

Small question: it seems that for Mountain Lion we cannot use Fluid if we want to benefit the new *notification center feature. Any workarounds here?(as I did get used to the Fluid version of RTM instead of the web based).
