Back up RTM

duncan.bayly says:
I use RTM with Google Gears but even still, losing all my tasks would suck. Hard.

Set up a regular task to download and backup the iCal file for your RTM account (Settings ... Info ... iCal All Lists)

I'm trying to do that, and it's not working for me. I get "cannot display" or it hangs.

Now i did export a file, and then tried to import it into Microsoft Works Calendar, and got "unable to import appointments".

I'm not sure how Microsoft Works' support for iCalendar is, but you may want to consider trying another iCalendar-supporting application just in case it's something not handled correctly by Works.

A backup would be nice, but the iCal links don't include tasks that don't have dates. The atom feed, however, does. I don't think there's any way to really "restore" from either of these, though.

yes, i'd like backups, too - it could be solved with an export/import to XML feature!

If you can't restore from the file, how does it function as a backup?

jansona, the iCalendar links keep undated tasks stored as VTODO entries. Many iCalendar-supporting applications don't support those (they only show VEVENT entries) but they're definitely saved in the iCalendar. :)

I am backing up by saving this file:

From what I read above, I haven't seen how to import the data back into RTM. I would want to do this in case my data in RTM gets lost, as unlikely as that is to happen.....

My mistake, andrewski. It's only the (Events) feeds that don't have TODO entries.
