Easy Packing List

Quick easy packing list tip:
This is the same way I do my grocery list and it works great for trip packing.

PERMANENT LIST
I start a new list with everything I can think of that I might need to pack (I actually created a list for a specific trip, and then reused it as the base for this permanent list.) At this point, I do not use any tags, I just use a preface word for a category. At this point my list looks something like this:

- top: blue tshirt
- top: cardigan
- bottom: jeans
- underwear: socks (2)
- extra: yellow bikini
- wash-up kit: contacts
- bag: red backpack
- dog: extra collar & leash

The category word at the beginning puts all like items together, so as I pack I can easly see that I have too many tops or I can grab all the dog's items at once without running all over the house.

PACKING / TRIP LIST
I can then go through and check off the items I want for this particular trip, duplicate them, and tag them "pack". I can choose my swimsuit for a beach vacation, or my white blouse for a business trip.
A "Pack" smartlist shows me all the items I have chosen.

I can also tag something "buy" or "errand" or even "chore" (e.g. - "give house key to neighbor") and it will show up on my other specific smart lists. Having these items on the list makes my next trip preparation a breeze.

I then archive the master list until my next trip so I don't have to see the tab all the time.

Great tip! I've been doing something like this for a while, although a little bit less sophisticated than the way you've set it up, and it's been very helpful. With the "duplicate" step, do you ever run into problems because RtM won't duplicate more than 25 tasks at a time?
