Making broken technology a little less broken

mshancock says:
I have an analogue watch that has a handy little number that tells me the day of the month. The problem with the watch is that it doesn't actually know what month it is, and so it ends up being wrong 5 times a year (on the first of the month after a non-31 day month).

As it turns out, I use this date on my watch pretty infrequently, so when a non-31 day month passes, I don't always notice. I've been caught a couple of times on days like Oct 3 thinking that it's Oct 2 incorrectly. I did this enough times that I eventually stopped trusting this number.

Fortunately, I found a solution with Remember the Milk; I just put five tasks that repeat yearly called "adjust watch" on Mar 1, May 1, Jul 1, Oct 1, and Dec 1. I check my RTM daily, and so this problem gets fixed as soon as it happens.

Now my broken technology is a little less broken! I use the date on my watch a lot more now and with a lot more confidence.

Nice - I have a nice watch that my wife gave me and run into the same problem; I don't want to give up the watch, but infrequent use means I never trust the date.

Thanks!
