Using RTM as a book cataloging tool

abhitux says:
I’ve been using RTM as a book cataloging tool to keep track of which books I’ve read and the ones I’m about to read. It works similar to other online cataloging tools like Goodreads, albeit with lesser features. All you have to do is create 3 lists, one for the books you’re reading right now, one for the books you’ve read and the last one for the books you wish to read in the future. To add a book you’re reading right now, just type its name with the tag #reading and it will be added to your current reading list. Once you’re done reading it, just mark it as complete and it will automatically go into your ‘read’ list. Here’s how to do it:

Create 3 lists with the following criterion:
Reading: tag:reading AND due:never AND status:incomplete
To Read: tag:toread AND due:never AND status:incomplete
Read: tag:reading AND due:never AND status:completed

To add a book to the catalog, just type the book's name followed by the appropriate tag.
Example:
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson #reading
Once you’re done reading, simply complete the task and the book’s name will automatically be added to your read list.
To add books you want to read in the future, just type their name with #toread tag. For example :
Catcher in The Rye #toread

Once you start reading a book from the list, just change the task’s tag to #reading

To add books that you’ve previously read, just enter them one by one using the #reading tag. Then, select them all and mark them as complete. All of those books will instantly be added to your #read list. Since the #read list includes only the completed tasks, the books you’ve already read won’t clutter your inbox.

I found this very usefull! I was all over the board with tracking books that I wanted to read and reading. Do you know a good way to sharing books that you've read and recommend to friend electronically?

Theegooch - you could try the site Goodreads. it's great for tracking your reading. And if you can get your friends on there, great for sharing and recommending too. You can even set up "groups" to discuss the books you and your friends are reading. There are other similar ones, though Goodreads is the one I'm most familiar with. I find so many great things to read over there I'd never have found before.

Put a task in your RTM list - "check out Goodreads". :-D
