Many of the tags I use are meant for my smart lists. For example, I have a week view smart list where I want to see all of the tasks that are due this week. However, I have repeating tasks, such as taking out the trash that I don't want to show up. In order to hide these tasks, I tag them with a special "hidden" tag.

Now, the problem is that I don't want these tags to show up in my tag cloud. They add too much noise to the tag cloud. Instead, I put them onto my repeating tasks as notes. My smart lists filter out any tasks which have a note that says hidden on it.

If you use Firefox/Chrome, you could use GreaseMonkey and a script called Tag Cloud Colorizer found here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25046

It lets you hide certain tags from the tag cloud, very useful! For instance, you can have one setup at work (hiding private tags) and the opposite at home, letting you focus on private tasks.

You can also group the tags by using sections, read more in the script.

Lol - I actually do use that exact plugin and absolutely love it. The problem though occurs when I open my tasks on my iPhone. Then I've got lots of "tag" noise for my meta tags.

I like your idea about having home-only tags and work-only tags. I may play around with that idea.

That's a problem, fixing the perfect setup on the website using scripts etc gives you more than you want on other devices.
I have very few meta-tags, basically only the z1d etc for the sleeper tag method. For the same reason I have but a few lists, regular and smart.
