Remember to meet Steve (next time you're in Berlin)

Even in amazing times of social media, there's nothing like meeting in person, whether it's about business or friendship, but my clients and friends reside all over the country, so I'd rather drop in when I'm in town for a conference or work anyway. I keep tabs of people I'd like to meet here and there by tagging them with "meet soon" on Linkedin and it's German pendant Xing. The thing is, I usually remember to check it just when I'm leaving again.

RTM has the solution: I set locations for every city where I'd like to meet someone and create tasks without a due date like "Meet Steve" at that location. Next time I arrive in Berlin I'll be reminded of a friend and a potential client I should call and drink a cup of joe with. Now I have one less thing on my mind while my travels become more "social" (Never eat alone!).

Little drawbacks and solutions:

Clutter
No problem, as EVERY RELEVANT task I create has a due date on it. If this does not work for you, no problem: Create a "meeting"-Tag and filter out those tasks via a saved search.

Location radius
This is more tricky. To make use of reminders which show up only at home, at the office or at the weekly market, which are just a mile apart, i have set a small radius for locations. Generally I'd prefer to set this value per location and not globally. Anyway, as I mostly travel per train, I set the reminders to trigger off at the main station. You might prefer the airport or your favourite hotel, but it basically remains the same.

I should have mentioned that this tip is suitable for pro-users only because you need the app on your smartphone to remind you when you arrive.

Clever idea! As such, it clearly deserves an honorable mention as tip-of-the-week!

Do you get pop up reminders (much like when a task is due in a few minutes) or do you manually check your phone to get reminded?
