Using RTM to help you watch great films

If you're like me, you have a brain like a seive, yet you love to watch good films, these tips might help. Here is my situation:

-every now and then people tell you about a great film you should see
-you might be on a bus or train, listening to a review etc. and hear about a film that you think you will like
-you sometimes go to the cinema
-you subscribe to a DVD home rental service (or more than one)
-you buy and own DVDs
-you watch TV and/or iPlayer

Assuming you are capturing the film name in your Inbox, you create a list of all your unwatched films (say, R-Films - R for reference). You tag the ones you have on your DVD rental list (I use lf for Love Film), you tag those you own but have not watched (own), or if you have downloaded them.

Then you create a list that shows all unwatched films that you have not done something to be able to watch them (list:R-films AND isTagged:false) these are the films that you wither need to buy, rent or go and see in the cinema.

You can than allocate them to a time (for cinema, say) or put them on your Love Film list (tagging that film removes it from the list).

And when you watch the film, you complete it. This gives you a great growing list of every film you have seen.

You could even tag them by genre, or rate them, or whatever works for you.

I decided a while ago to see AFI's top 100 American Movies.

I created a list called "Movies" and used the import email address for my account.

To:
Subject: Movies
Body: Copy and pasted list @ http://www.afi.com/100years/movies.aspx

Within a matter of seconds, I have a fully populated list in my "Movies" list!

Good idea! The only flaw I have found with my system is you currently cannot sort completed tasks by name to quickly check if you have seen a movie (my memory is that bad). But you can also easily answer the frequent "seen any good films recently" question by quickly seeing the last few things on your completed list! (you can even tag them with ratings, but I have not quite gone that far, yet...)

All movies that I have see have been updated as follows:

1. CITIZEN KANE (1941)

to

Seen It ----> 1. CITIZEN KANE (1941)

Then, I have the sort set to 'Task Name'. This allows for easy viewing.
