Tonight's Tasks for Overnight Workers
I've just figured out how to search for (and set up a Smart List for) the tasks due during my current shift. Since I work overnights, due:today only covers the tasks for the first half of my shift.
Instead, my Smart List labeled "Work" uses the following search:
- dueBefore:"15 hours after now" AND tag:work
I used 15 hours so that while I'm at home, I can still get a preview of the entire upcoming shift without including the next shift's items as I reach the end of today's shift.
Since I also work a strange but regularly repeating schedule, I combine this with tasks that repeat as follows:
- every 2nd Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday
and
- every 2nd Wednesday, Thursday
(It's important to note that the RTM server considers Monday to be the first day of the week so I had to include the Sunday repetition at the end of that week instead of at the beginning of the short week).
Finally, since MilkSync doesn't work with Smart Lists, I'll use the mobile interface on my BlackBerry to double-check the list as the shift goes by until I can switch back to an Android device (so I can use the full RTM software).
I also put due times on almost all of my home- and work-related tasks so that I get reminders via e-mail, text message, and instant messenger.

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but you could search for
dueAfter:"today 9:00 PM" AND dueBefore:"tomorrow 5:00 AM"
(or whatever the times are).
If that's not what you're looking for, can you let me know what you are?
