use rtm as a calendar

I have for some time used rtm for tasks and ical for events. Knowing that tasks (due BY...) and events (due ON...) are a different breed, I find that rtm works well for both.

Here's my setup: I have several lists, one for my university stuff, one for private stuff, one for my work stuff (I'm a lawyer) and now one for events. The reason for this is that I want my events to be clearly identified as such in the weekly planner view, which requires to throw them in their own list. Each event has a date, a starting time, if any, and a duration (i.e. time estimate).

All tasks, and events, have tags associated with projects (= whatever takes AT LEAST ONE step to complete), such as "wedding" (if you're planning for one), or "presentation client X" etc. I take care that all events have a such tag as well.

I then set up a smart list for each project.

That way, I can see all tasks and events of my projects side by side.
To make the difference more obvious, I assign priority 1 to all my events. Finally, I use a tag "@wait" for all tasks that I've assigned to some one else. I assign priority 3 to all such tasks (as you can see, I use priorities only as a color-marker).

Result: Everything that belongs to a project is there, clearly distinguished by color. If I want my events in a traditional calendar view, I subscribe to my events list by Google calendar. The only downside is that I can't edit my events in Google calendar, but that's a lesser issue to me than constantly switching between rtm and my calendar.

Does anyone else use rtm as a calendar replacement? What's your experience?

I used RTM as a calendar back before Gcal was released. It had its merits, but in the end I found it to be like banging a square peg in a round hole. I do subscribe to my RTM tasks in Gcal, and I adore having the Gcal agenda view to show me my tasks and events in an integrated view.

If you subscribe to various smart lists , you can match the colors of various Gcal calendars to your RTM lists to get a good overview of where your responsibilities lie.

The big drawback to this is the inability to edit RTM while in Gcal. This is why I dream of RTM CalDAV syncing, so I could manage these things together in iCal, for example.
