Gmail canned responses

jfaustus says:
If you don't like the RTM Gmail widget (and I don't), Gmail Labs has a great option that works very well with RTM for email: canned responses. When enabled, this lets you save the text of an email and insert that text from a dropdown menu in the compose window. The saved text is automatically inserted at the cursor. You can have a whole list of "canned responses". I have three -- named Work P1, P2, and P3 -- for work tasks with different priorities.

To enable, go to Settings --> Labs, click the box to enable canned responses, and click save. Next time you compose, you'll see a new dropdpwn menu. Type your text (e..g., P:1; L:work; D:today; S:nextaction), click the new dropdown, and select "New canned response". Give your response a name, and you're done!

This is a very powerful trick, and one that I have been successfully using for a while. The other part that I like is that it's nice to write the "note" part of the task in gmail's big text window.

Well, thank you for the inspiring tip to define different canned responses with pre-defined tags for my GTD system. I just had a one-fits-all setting which is ridiculously stupid :-)

For those new to the import function of RTM have a look at

another tip:

add the help informations for smart add (or what ever you need) below the -end- line. So you don't have to memorize all commands and can look them up easily when you need them.
