Wow. Looks amazing. Any idea how I can get gmail to roll out the new version of gmail for GAFYD? The movie has me salivating!

I still can't the new version of Gmail, so i just installed the extension waiting to put my hands on it...but i saw the video, and....i love you, guys.

Very, very nice! I just installed it and it seems to be running smoothly. One thing that would make this totally rock is the ability to enter, and see notes inside the Gmail client.

I read some posts about colored tags in Gmail. Couldn't get it to work at all until I changed from Swedish to English settings. Then the colors appeared. Switching back to Swedish removed the colors :-(

Maybe it's the same with this, you have to use English?

Any idea when this will be available to those of us using IE?

I'd love it if it could import starred items from Google Reader too...

Colour me highly impressed - can see myself getting a lot of use out of this.

Couple of small feature suggestions/requests:

The ability to group by tags. I realise there's the ability to filter by tag, and that's probably all I'll need. Just thought about tags when I 1st went to options and only saw due date under Group By.

When creating a task from an email, perhaps add the body of the email as a note on the task and/or extract any URL links into the relevant task field.

Might be back with others once I've used it a bit more but, in the meantime, congratulations! Very nicely done indeed.

I'm very impressed with this new development! The way it pulls together all of Google's services in way they still can't accomplish is fantastic! Wow! Terrific extension!! It just works! Two things:

1) Can we get that functionality sitting alongside our Google Calendar's? Pleeeaaase! I know it integrates with gCal, but I'd love to see that Task list right alongside my gCal when I'm viewing my calendar.

2) Can we get that "Set task view here..." drop down added to the Google Gadget?!! Yes, I know we can click Setting, choose a list and click Save, but I've always wanted that to be even more simplified, just like you have it in the new extension. Just drop the list down and pick a new list. Great job.

After installing RTM for gmail I've experienced the following problem: after returning to Firefox after a period of inactivity I am unable to change tabs. I have to restart Firefox to return to normal functionality.

Very nice from the short time I have played with this. I think it is your most useful interface yet!

I do have a suggestion for Action words and linking to Contacts.

"With" does not appear to be an action word. "Dinner with", "meeting with" and so on do not suggest contacts. "Ask" does work, so I know the Contact module is working.

Jamezzz - while you wait for RTM crew to build this into Gcal, you might want to check on the threads here suggesting how to enable the iGoogle gadget as a sidebar. I use that along with Gcal and it's pretty good. It's not as slick as this new stuff, but it's helpful.

Also, I heartily second Jamezzz's suggestion of adding the Gmail/RTM drop down menu to the iGoogle gadget. This is much better.

Events in Google calendar do not seem to be recognized when I add tasks. In any case, it's great.

Congratulations Team! Thats a great idea. Like Richie above, the ability to sort or filter by tags would be very useful to focus on the email or web context (with over 250 action items, it helps to be able to filter in that way).

I'm sure you'll be flooded w/ "bright ideas".... very well done!

BTW. For those who dont have the new Gmail yet... try switch the language from UK english to US english. For weeks I couldnt understand why everyone else had v2 of Gmail before I changed the language... and I finally had it!

Just installed RTM for GMail. It works great from my vanilla GMail account, but won't display on my Google Apps mail account.
I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.11 and I have the new GMail interface (complete with "Older version" link in the top right). The GMail window reserves space for RTM to the right of the mail display, but it stubbornly remains white even after both restarting FF and logging in and out.
Any suggestions?

TIP: If you happens to use RTM on different computers (like a home computer, work computer etc) you can have a different smart-lists on each computer!

I'm lovin it! Although I am noticing that when I create a task from the new task bar, I cannot change the due date of the item. Otherwise works great!

As far as including the email with task, previously I would forward emails to my RTM inbox with the body of the email as a note. Perhaps we can incorporate this into the module?

Other small touches:

- autocompletion of tags
- add priority to task
- LOVE the integration with contacts, maybe added features if contact is an RTM member?

I would also like to see this incorporated into the Google calendar page as well, but I can only imagine the points of failure when switching back and forth between "apps", let alone having multiple instances open. I'm sure it's on your list of things to do!

One thing. Not all people have a wide screen. So, it takes up a lot of space for them to see the mail list. Please implement a way to hide the Task pane so that it can be called and take the screen estate only when it is needed.

This is a really nice feature. Two thoughts:
(1) I'd like to remove the due date since you also have it filtered by due date. (Which is really cool!)

(2) And this also applies to the regular interface... would like an easier way to jump to a URL. In the regular interface, would love to see a little globe logo next to the notes logo so that if you're looking at an item, you can click on the globe to go to the URL. On the Gmail interface, unless I'm missing it, the only way to get to the URL is to copy it and then open a new tab and paste in the URL.

I'd also like to vote for grouping by tag. Grouping by list would be even better as long as there is also an accompanying shorthand to place a new item in a specific list. Thanks!

Holy crap, genius.

To kzapth245 - I believe it's already there, and rather nicely done, too. It works in the same way that Google Reader allows its' left-hand menu to be hidden: there's a very thin vertical column between your inbox and your task list, with a small arrow pointing to the right (when the task list is open) halfway down. Just click on that to hide the tasks, and a second time to show them again.

Having played around with it for a while, I was just wondering - has anyone else noticed Firefox getting a bit sluggish to respond to changing tabs after a while?

@richie_p: Yes, I found it out shortly after I posted it here. It's so subtly integrated. I love it. I don't get my Firefox sluggish. That could depend on your RAM since Firefox 2 currently has a lot of memory leaks which are quite well fixed in the Beta 2 of Firefox 3.

There is one thing to be improved: I can't add notes right in my Gmail. If I click on the notes, I am taken to the Remember the List site. The problem is I don't like the way they present the data at the site (that's one reason I have abandoned it until now the wonderful plug-in becomes available).

Gmail in Google Apps should now work

We've fixed an issue today for the Google Apps version (yay!) -- if you have the new Gmail version, it should work if you reload Gmail.

As wojo described, if you don't have the new Gmail yet, there's an option in the Apps control panel under "Domain Settings" called "Turn on new application features to my domain before they are rolled out to all Google Apps customers." Turning that on seems to give you the new Gmail version after a few hours.

Support for other browsers

I'm not sure if/when we might be supporting browsers other than Firefox at this stage, but it's something that we'll look at depending on the demand :)

Slowness in Firefox

We experienced an issue early on that caused slowness in Firefox for some users -- we put out a fix for this, but if you're still having this problem, you may need to reload Gmail (or clear Firefox's cache if it continues). Please contact us to report any continuing problems.

Conflicts with other extensions and Greasemonkey skins

A couple of other Gmail extensions have been reported to conflict with this extension. We've put out a fix so that other extensions (hopefully!) won't try to hide the RTM tasks pane. If you've found an extension that seems to conflict with RTM in some way, please let us know. Thanks! :)

This is really great. I signed up for RTM just because of the sheer awesomeness of this idea (I basically live in gmail). Here are my humble requests:

1. When in regular inbox view, I should be able to check an email and create a RTM task from it using the More Actions menu. This is a lot faster than opening email, making it a task, and then going back to inbox view so I can see the task and tweak it.

2. I just made a task out of a bill reminder that has this text in it: "Payment Due Date: Jan 07 2008", but RTM thinks it should be due today. It would be awesome if RTM attempted to look for dates to use as due dates.

Oh, one more thing...my wife and I use separate gmail accounts with the same OS login (we manage this using the great Gmail Manager FF extension).

She's not currently interested in RTM. It would be nice if the RTM Tasks sidebar could be selectively enabled/disabled on a per-account basis.

If my wife doesn't like seeing my tasks in her face, I'm going to have to disable this extension for now. :-(

anyway to change priority within the gmail extension?

I was surprised that the "make a task from a starred/labeled Gmail" feature doesn't add the message's URL to the task's URL field. Given that Gmail message links are now permalinks (with the latest revision), it would make a great deal of sense.

It seems that the RTM sidebar only picksup events from my default personal calendar. I keep separate calendars for work and school and when I try to add a task for "a week after CES" or "two days before CES" it just makes it a week or two days from today.

Any chance of RTM looking at all calendars in your view?

Fantastic guys! I hadn't used your service because I couldn't tie it to e-mails and it couldn't handle attachments. With this, you've killed 2 birds with 1 stone!

I agree with wcitypoe - task URL should be filled with the Google Mail message URL. Maybe it should be an option set in the plugin settings?

I've got to be honest, the more I use this, the more I like it - I think it's my favourite RTM interface now, even aside from the GMail integration! I love being able to see multiple days in one view, grouped by overdue, today, tomorrow etc.

One feature request I have is the ability to use shortcut keys. I navigate gmail and RTM almost exclusively with my keyboard. It would be nice to use similar shortcut keys in RTM for Gmail.

It would be great if this could be integrated into Google Calendar too. I never found the feature of RTM in Gcal like it is today very usefull...

BTW... why limit RTM to only Gmail and Gcal... why not just have it all the time when you use browsing? Is this possible?

You got me back to using RTM with your new Gmail interface. I did notice one odd behavior when entering a task that contains a phone number. The app. seems to be converting the phone number into a date way in the future in most cases, and then drops the phone number from the task description.

Also, why if you are sorting by date and them priority does the app. not sort an item that has a time specified (in addition to a priority)?

One last recommendation is for both the RTM Gmail interface and regular app. It would be great to see more than one line when editing the task description, almost like you do for entering notes. More than one line for initial task entry would be nice too.

I absolutely agree with wcitypoe and mgryszko - task URL should be filled with the Google Mail message URL! We can't reach the original email from the "classic" RTM at all. It's annoying... Many thanks!

Excellent plugin!

I've been playing around with it, and it's great! I've found one issue though, it looks like some shared tasks are coming up twice in the "All Tasks" list. Also, I think it would be cool to be able to view more than one list at a time using the 'Set task view here' item. For example,

list:"Inbox"+"Personal",tag:work+test

Love the new sidebar! I could use a couple of more display settings configurations though. The most pressing would be to get rid of the little "Today" on the ones under the Today category. It's under that category... I know it's for today. I want to see more of my todo without scrolling... Valuable use of screen space... high priority for me.

When adding a task from starring an e-mail I'd like the word "E-mail: " to optionally appear in front of the subject. Just having the subject as the task name is more confusing (especially when using RTM for GTD). And manually changing the task name is a bit cumbersome.

Or even adding the Gmail envelope to show that it's a task from an e-mail could be a way. Perhaps even clicking that icon could open the e-mail instead of hovering and then clicking the icon. But now we're into details... :)

Oh one more thing. The RTM sidebar doesn't show up when displaying individual e-mails (only when viewing lists). That makes it a bit more difficult when for example starring an e-mail when reading it and then setting for example priority and due date while still reading the e-mail.

1) Is it possible to display the RTM sidebar also when reading individual e-mails?

2) If the answer to the above is no, maybe some kind of popup window could pop up when the task is added, where the details can be edited directly?

When having many tasks the newly added task may be difficult to find in the list when going back to the inbox.

Otherwise I think this app is awesome. If the same features could be added to the Google Personalized Home Page (and thus also to the RTM Firefox sidebar) it really would be great. That is, the sidebar as a standalone sidebar that can be displayed on all tabs in Firefox (and possibly IE too, but I'm not using that).

I've been using the new Gmail extension for a few days, and here are my suggestions for further improvement:

1. Add the option to make the RTM pane viewable from all screens within Gmail, not just the inbox. However, it'd be nice to have the option to leave it as-is, too.

2. Allow the user to immediately edit the subject and other properties of a task that's created when starring/labeling an email.

Every starred email represents a task to me, but that task is rarely described usefully by the subject of the message, especially because lots of my emails are from the same contact form, which always uses the same subject line. I end up with lots of RTM tasks that say "Website contact form..."

The best way I can think of would be to make it more like the Netvibes RTM module: When you hit star or label a message, a multi-field box appears in the sidebar and allows you to edit any of the properties. Hence the importance of #1.

Right now, the task disappears unless I have my RTM sidebar set to display tasks that happen to match the properties of the auto-created task. I generally want to edit the task, so it'd be nice to have the option without clicking to a different screen.

This is key because the only thing that makes an RTM task better than a starred email is the metadata in the task, which forces me to be specific and follow my GTD protocol. If I can't edit the task quickly, it really interrupts the workflow.

3. Have the email permalink added to the task's URL field, as someone suggested above. That way, if I'm working from RTM's interface (or, say, the Netvibes module) rather than Gmail, I can quickly get to the message.

4. I would say don't bother porting it to other browsers. Wait for Google to buy/license it from you, and they can roll it out to all users. Seriously, you guys fill a big hole in their online office suite portfolio. They should come knocking soon.

Hi i find the interface really good.
Actually i now use it as the main interface even if i'm logged into classic RTM. You should consider reworking the overview pane to look more like this interface. I can't find another way to show all my task and having date information at the same time

(A more convenient way of replacing the e-mail subject as the task name and adding other meta data and having the e-mail URL added to the URL field automatically).

Also would love to be able to change the task subject when creating the task. It's so mega-confusing with the current subject lines as most people email me with horrible, single word subjects!

The above request is really important to me, and doesn't seem too hard to do. As it is, the gmail extension forces you that you use it in a very specific and limited way, completely cutting off the flexibility it could have.

Having it (have the option to) leave the task alone if you unstar/unlabel or reply to it would allow one entry/task to track various steps (which is what i'm doing), some of which could involve mail, some of which could not.

So, please, set the extension free! No strings attached and I'm forever in debt.

I agree with jjeudymd and others- adding priorities, sharing, and tags from the line entry would be helpful.

I did see the comment on how to change the priority post-task creation, but the remaining fields (particularly notes and sharing) that cannot be modified from that window would be a bonus as well.

I managed to figure out how to add tags after scouring the tips and tricks forum... all this time I saved with RTM was used up trying to figure out how to use the features.

Do you think you could create a page where all of the known tricks and tips could be accessed? Specifically features you have created?
