New, Improved Web: Note to self--Remember the Milk by Scott Spanbauer

More than just a to-do list manager, Remember the Milk acts like a full-blown calendar, but without the row-and-column display. Separating your life into Personal, Study, and Work tasks (categories you can change), you enter task reminders as you would in any other calendar; you can even create shared calendars for your group projects. Remember the Milk stands apart from other free online calendar/scheduling services in its support for the iCalendar format for importing and exporting calendars, as well as in its ability to publish your various tasks as a news feed. Think about it by Seamus Byrne

I'm a big fan of to-do lists, but I usually end up forgetting the list or losing the scrap of paper I jotted it down on, so falling back on my memory is a common problem. Remember the Milk is here to save us from ourselves, with a simple yet powerful online to-do list manager. You can make multiple lists across categories of your own creation, prioritise and colour code, apply due dates, add time estimates and a whole lot more. It's also easy to "postpone" a reminder if you're just not ready to finish a task yet. Reminders are the most powerful tool here and you can have them delivered via email, instant messenger or even SMS. Developed by a Sydney team, it is free right now, so support some Aussie talent and give it a try. (21 January 2006)

Don't forget the milk!

Despite its rather strange name, "Remember The Milk" is a convenient way of managing developer related "to do" lists online, or in fact, any other sorts of lists for either personal or business use.

Of course, given what this software has been written to do, that is, to help you to compile lists so that you can remember (or be reminded) to get tasks done on time, the name is actually a good match. After all, how many times has your partner said to you, or alternatively, you've said to them, "did you remember to get the milk on the way home?" In this review, we'll take "Remember The Milk" for a test drive and show you how your development team can benefit from using this handy tool. (January/February 2006)

Useful Site of the Month

A number of sites let you keep track of to-do lists, but rememberthemilk.com is our favorite for its fast, simple interface and myriad options. Assign tasks a priority level, organize them by group (Work, Home), and share lists with others. The site will even keep you on task with reminders sent by e-mail, IM or text message. (January 2006)

Web 2.0 - www.rememberthemilk.com

A relatively new offering, Remember The Milk (RTM) is online Nirvana for all those list-o-philes out there (you know who you are). If you consistently leave behind a trail of dog-eared paper scraps marked, "TO DO," then this is your future. RTM is a list repository, a diary, an alarm clock and an email service. You group your lists according to categories (work, study, personal, etc.) and order them according to a mix of time sensitivity and importance. Reminders can be sent via email, instant messaging or SMS, and RSS functionality is also present. There are a few bugs to be ironed out in this early beta, but the advantages are obvious: your lists are gathered in one spot, available everywhere you go (well, everywhere you have internet access). The only draw back is getting over the addiction to that sweet sound of pen striking parchment as you work your way through various lists. A single left click on "complete" will have to suffice. Honey, Did You Remember The Milk? by Jamy Pombo

It takes a lot of work to have a happy marriage, but here's a Web site that may make domestic bliss a little easier.

RememberTheMilk.com gives users a place to manage to-do lists online. The site will remind you of all your little tasks through e-mail or an instant message account.

But what's really great is that you can have text messages sent to your cell phone. So if your spouse asks you to stop for bread on the way home, you'll have an instant reminder. (11 November 2005)

Forget the sticky note - remember the milk! by Dahna McConnachie

Put down your pen and "sticky note" pad - the reminder note of the future is here with the launch of a free open-source Web application for the masses called Remember the Milk (RTM).

Created by Emily Boyd and Omar Kilani, RTM is an electronic planner that offers e-mail, instant messaging (IM) and Short Message Service (SMS) reminders to yourself or to others; the ability to share and/or publish lists with contact groups; and support for iCalendar, a standard for calendar data exchange across applications and OS platforms. Sydney duo plot end to Post-it notes by Renai LeMay

After more than a year in development, two Sydney-based developers have launched their online solution to the paper-based 'to-do' list using advanced Web development techniques.

Dubbed 'Remember the Milk' (RTM), it lets users create and manage tasks on the Web, and even share lists with others. In addition, it's possible to send reminders via SMS, e-mail or instant message, and view the lists themselves via RSS (Really Simple Syndication). Users can also synchronise their lists with their Apple iCalendar.

What sets RTM apart from the rest is its intuitive user interface. Currently in beta, RTM will offer more collaborative features in future such as integration with Microsoft's Outlook e-mail client and support for 14 languages. (28 October 2005)

Site Seeing: Better than string by Jules Allen

This nifty site might be my newest favorite, at least until something niftier comesalong. It's a to-do list manager that is better than any other you've used. It will remind you via e-mail, send text messages to your phone and help you boss around what you laughingly refer to as free time. (24 October 2005)

Best bets on the Net: To-do lists (login required) by Rich Ray

Billed as the best way to manage your to-do lists online, this free Web service called Remember the Milk provides several features to help you organize your life. The key to the site is the well-presented, easy-to-use interface that enables you to manage to-do lists for any reason you can think of (work, study, personal, etc.). Create tasks (send flowers to Mom, get theatre tickets, etc.) and assign color-coded priorities, deadlines, all the notes you want to include, and more. Have the service send you reminders by e-mail or text message and share to-do lists with your family and friends should you choose. (14 November 2005)

webPICKS by Amber MacArthur

"My web pick of the week is called Remember The Milk... It's a place where you can go and you can basically manage all your to-do lists... But the cool thing about it is not so much that just the organization of the lists on the site RememberTheMilk.com... the cool thing is actually that you get all these cool ways to get reminded of your to-do list... you can get reminded via SMS message (you can get a text message to your phone), you can get reminded by email, and you can also get reminded by a service like MSN, AIM, or something like that, so that you can actually get reminders in your messaging service... It's really, really intuitive -- it's actually a beautiful site." (31 October 2005)

Amanda's Cool Site by Amanda

I make lists for everything, from what I need to get done for WorldStart to house chores to grocery lists. When I found this site I was delighted! So after checking out the Learn More link, I readily signed up. It's free!

This is a very thorough planner and list maker... I can't wait to put this site to work. I'm going to be very organized, and it will be much easier to multi-task the millions of things I need to get done. (28 October 2005)
