Show/Hide keyboard shortcuts
jsarch says:
Hi all,
Is there a way to show/hide the keyboard shortcuts similarly to the way that the search options are? I just started using RTM and I have a large blank space underneath the "Key" block that I think would be perfect for showing the keyboard shortcuts.
I'm using Safari btw, and while it may be possible to use Greasemonkey or somesuch, it seems like this could simply be a setting preference or similar.
Thanks in advance

Hi jsarch,
It's not possible without greasemonkey (or stylish).

it would be useful for people on the k/bd shortcut learing curve though

it would be really helpful to have the short cuts appear next to the fields in the detail of the task. Like, next to repeats have the single letter shortcut show up. They are not intuitive, so...

Agreed! Some make perfect sense, like using "m" to toggle multi-edit mode; some, however, make me crazy, like "j" to move down and "k" to move up. If it has been five minutes since the last time I used those I get them backwards every time.
Since keyboard shortcuts are probably used most by power users, why not make these more flexible for us by making them assignable? There are a few things I would change right away:
- reverse j and k for navigating up/down a list
- use spacebar for selection rather than i
- use i to insert new tasks rather than t
- use t for tags rather than s
It might also be nice to assign multiple keys to perform the same shortcut. For example, I know that 4 sets "no priority", but 0 (zero) makes more sense in my mind for that. 4 is closer to the other priority keys but I still try using 0 almost every time.
Hey RTM devs, any chance you'll let us assign shortcut keys for use with our accounts?
Thanks!

I would suggest using ? as the shortcut for it.

'?' is a great idea. I'm a keyboard junkie and would use RTM *much* more if I could have a shortcut to pop up a little containing a tightly-formatted quickref of the shortcuts. Even a link would be good.
