In the same vein, when postponing things, it would be nice to be able to postpone more than one day. How can I do that, postpone a week for example, or 2 months?

Priorities constantly change and sometimes it is imperative we put things off.

Edit the due date directly. Instead of just adding a day to the due date (postponing it) make it whatever you want.

The start date items could be handled by using a pending list with due date = early start date. That way the items will come up automatically on your overview or google task list and you don't need to worry about them until then.

I think in the current RTM setup, there are two ways to deal with this...

1) Owyn's method, where you set the due date to the start date, and then include the actual due date in some other way (in the title, a note); combine this with a smart list that only looks at things whose due date (which you would now be using as a notification date) is current or past.

2) I use the due date as a due date, and then use smart lists to limit how much I look ahead on a day to day basis. I then also have a smart list that looks out further in the future so I can get a sense of what's coming up in the mid- to long-term.

Outlook has a start date, and it can be handy. Still, now that I have used RTM for a year, I find that smart lists mean I miss the start date much less than I expected I would.

Hmmm. I obviously still have a lot to learn about RTM. Little touches and features abound.

One thing I realized this morning is that schema has both due date and postponed count fields. So changing the due date does not have the same effect as postponing. Whether this is material probably depends on whether the user wants to be reminded of procrastination. ;)

Smart Lists did not exist when RTM showed up, and they are the best addition to the service since it started. I am thankful for them every day.

Thanks. Great link. Did some tests for myself. Very useful.

I have added a follow up task for next week to review how I am using RTM. For now I am just throwing everything at it and seeing how things work.

One question. Can you apply a tag to a selection of tasks?
