Can't add Reminder for 2 days before task is done

I went to Settings, and then the Reminders tab.

1) The Save Changes button only appears available (undimmed) if I toggle the "At the time the task is due" checkbox.
2) Even when I appear to Save Changes, my 2 days before the task is due preference disappears.
What am I doing wrong?

You need to use an measurement less than "days" in the reminders for timed tasks. Try "48 hours."

I realize that I was confused between the settings "Send me a daily reminder..." and "If the task has a due time, remind me..."
These have the exact same settings options, apparently, but the 2 days option works on the "Send me a daily reminder..." vs you need the hours on "If the task has a due time, remind me..."
To me, as a user speeding around trying things out without reading the manual, this was a subtlety that was easy to miss.
I realize that I was confused between the settings "Send me a daily reminder..." and "If the task has a due time, remind me..."
