The entire tasks pane stopped appearing

Important: The browser add-on described in these help pages has been discontinued. We now have an official Gmail add-on, Remember The Milk for Gmail.

Please try the following steps to resolve the issue:

Check that you're using Gmail in US English.

Please check to ensure that you're using Gmail in US English (unfortunately we're not able to support the non-US English versions of Gmail at this time).

Enable third party cookies in your browser.

For Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome's Options or Preferences.
    • In Windows: at the top of the Chrome window, click on the Tools button and then select Options.
    • In Mac OS X: on the menu bar, click on the Chrome menu and select Preferences.
    • In Linux: at the top of the Chrome window, click on the Tools button and then select Preferences.
  2. Click on the Under the Hood tab.
  3. Press the Content Settings button.
  4. Select Allow local data to be set.
  5. Uncheck the 'Ignore exceptions and block third-party cookies from being set' checkbox.

For Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox's Options or Preferences.
    • In Windows: at the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (or Tools menu in Windows XP) and then click Options.
    • In Mac OS X: on the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Preferences.
    • In Linux: at the top of the Firefox window, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click on Privacy.
  3. Press the Exceptions button.
  4. Enter rememberthemilk.com
  5. Press the Allow button.

Make sure the extension appears in your browser's list of add-ons.

To see this list, click the Tools menu then Add-ons. If Remember The Milk for Gmail appears, make sure it's enabled (i.e. not grayed out). If it's grayed out, you can enable it by selecting the extension, clicking the Enable button, and restarting your browser.

Check that the tasks pane is not collapsed.

You can expand it by clicking on the small arrow on the right of the page in Gmail.

Check for filtered tasks.

Please check to make sure that you're not filtering your tasks (e.g., only showing a particular list). This option is shown directly underneath the Add task field at the top of Remember The Milk for Gmail. If you're showing all your tasks, it should say Set task view here; if you're not showing all your tasks, you can click the arrow and change the option here.

Clear cache and cookies.

Please clear your cache and cookies and restart the browser before trying again, in case your browser's cache needs clearing.

Access with HTTPS.

Please try to access Gmail via HTTPS (replace the 'http://' in the URL with 'https://') to force Gmail (and Remember The Milk) to load via a secure connection (this can help if something is blocking Remember The Milk from loading properly).

Disable Gmail Labs.

A feature in Gmail Labs may be conflicting with Remember The Milk for Gmail. Please try disabling Gmail Labs and reloading Gmail.

Disable other extensions.

There are a number of extensions and Greasemonkey scripts available that make modifications to Gmail. If you are experiencing a problem with this feature while using another extension that modifies Gmail, we would recommend disabling the other extension, restarting your browser, and seeing if that resolves the issue. If you do encounter an extension conflict, please tell us so that we may investigate further (however, please note that we cannot guarantee compatibility with other extensions or scripts).
