Move tasks to other lists more easily
(closed account) says:
This has been my big hang-up with RTM. I would love to be able to specify which list a task is in the same way I specify what tags a list has. I'd envision a new "List:" item in the task properties box (with a keyboard shortcut, of course). Upon changing the task would automatically move. Of course, I'd accept a reasonable alternative as long as it takes as little time as possible.
I suppose this stems from my past indecision about whether to use multiple lists and minimally tag items or to use a single list and go crazy with tags. I've settled on having multiple lists because it just feels "cleaner".

I was hoping this would get some more action...or any at all!
I'd be willing to pay extra for this! Sorry, but I'm a musophobic (of the electronic kind) and hate to have to take my hands off the keyboard.
P.S. - I'm not really afraid of the mouse, I just don't like using it.

I second this idea! I wanted to have a list called "Processed" where I'd move any task that I have added tags etc. for from the "Inbox" list. But in the current way it just takes too long, so I'm instead using a smart list to try to catch all tasks that probably are not yet processed.
RTM is so great with keyboard shortcuts in other ways, which makes it really fast to use. If a faster way for moving to another list would be added it would certainly be useful.

I second too.
As we.kanes wrote, the new item 'Lists:' in the task box will be very useful. After user move to this using shortcut, there should be appear the list of user's lists below. At this lists, every item should have one-letter shortcuts displayed into brackets.
ex.
List_one(a)
List_two(b)
...
I'm using RTM for GTD by setup which lwallach describe there http://www.rememberthemilk.com/forums/tips/3140/, and this new option will be very useful not only for me, be for the another people who using it by this way.

Try using Greasemonkey to add them.
jgbrenner says:
I second (third) that - keyboard shortcut and drag/drop would be great for quickly sorting items...the dropdown is very cumbersome, particularly when one has many lists.
You have a great product - keep it up!

Another vote for a keyboard shortcut to move between lists. :)

Yet another vote for adding a keyboard shortcut for this. As for the avid greasemonkey users, is there a place where we can find some of these scripts? Makes it tempting to set up an RTM wiki to provide a more condensed place to put all of this stuff.

Another vote for being able to assign a task to a list like you can do "tag with..." within the Gmail RTM extension, would be even better if I could do. "Send out invoice l:work t:client" to add the task "send out invoice" to the Work list and tag it with the client name.
I only have two lists, Personal and Work so during the day I typically just use the RTM extension in Gmail and would love to be able to leave it open at the Work list but if I do that any newly added tasks end up in the Inbox not in the Work list so instead I use a smart list to view the tag of the client I am working on as I can tag the task as I add it. Would be nice just to sit on the entire work list instead though.

Another vote for jaseone's idea! I tried RTM for Gmail today, and the only thing I miss is something like "tag with" but for lists.

One more vote!

Another vote -- I agree 100%. Same with changing priorities.
The less need to use the drop down menu, the better.
The less need to use the drop down menu, the better.
I like the idea of the keyboard shortcut fro list moving as much as anyone, but a few quick ideas:
If you rely on lists that are smartlists built on tags, you can assign a task to a list (or lists) with the keyboard already.
Also, mahrinirb, you can change priorities from the keyboard with 1,2,3, and 4.

I also think this is very important. *Especially* if you're trying to implemetn the advanced gtd method:

I don't use gray-lists (just inbox and a '.' list that contains all tasks), but I can see why this would be useful for those who do. I personally still can't see the advantage of using multiple gray-lists instead of multiple blue-lists (smart lists), but whateva - to each his/her own.

If I had time I would do it with greasemonkey .. .
or ....maybe people could donate me a small amount of monet for an open source script I'd write :-)

Have a look at Gmails new labeling system, they have a 'move to label' keyboard shortcut with auto complete for label names. This and/or drag and drop to list tabs would be ideal.
If you don't do it soon I'll be tempted to greasemonkey it.
Cheers

Well I have given up hope. I'm currently testing out Toodledo.
At any rate, others have already greasemonkey'd it: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/32518

Follow up - IMHO I have concluded that Toodledo has a horrible interface. Maybe it's because I'm used to RTM's beautifully simple interface. Hope may be gone...but patience has kicked in. :-)

Yes I vote for a "Move to..." keyboard shortcut that would display a smart list selector, just like the tags field.
Come on Bob, the awesome amount of keybord shortcuts are one of the main reasons you're the best in the field.

I agree that this would be a useful core feature. But in the meantime, there is a really great greasemonkey script that will do this (and more for those who want):
A Bit Better RTM
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/32518
A Bit Better RTM (Keyboard shortcuts only)
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/38834
Both these scripts add a ctrl-m keyboard shortcut which will pop up an extremely well designed autocomplete-enabled list selector to move to.
