Steven, thanks for letting us know. If you have the chance to use the translation system to correct any mistakes you happen across, we would love your help!

I can't comment too much on the Dutch translation (not speaking Dutch!), but I know that some of the translation contributors visit this forum (there was some discussion regarding the Dutch translation last month).

You are more than welcome to discuss any issues that you come across with other translators on these forums, or if you'd prefer to just submit corrections directly through the translation system.

Hi Emily,

I translated a chunk some time ago. With dutch, there will be the ever lasting issue of 'Netherland Dutch' and 'Flemish Dutch'. What I try use is the correct dutch according to grammar and vocabulary. This is sometimes (almost always) considered to be unfamiliar for both, but correct however.

I found that many translations had been reverted to a 'local' or interpreted translation.

I believe it to be important for RTM that the translations are 'accessible' for all. Too much 'Netherlands Dutch' will avert the 'Flemish' and vice versa.

If these two languages differ like English (UK) and English (US), why not have both? Otherwise someone will change the previous translations to his/her liking making others wanting to revert to the old version etc. Just an idea, it's extremely unlikely I will ever use either translation ;-)

Guys, please also take the context of the function into consideration. Some of the translations are a little different on purpose, because it fits better. We've made some real progress the past months, no need to undo all that.

btw: steven's specific example is indeed wrong, I've suggested a better translation.

Emily, can you tell how active new submissions are in the Dutch part? I'm getting the feeling some of the phrases are being translated back and forth over and over.

Hi Klaas,

I have the same feeling, hence my question. IMHO we should first agree to a way of working.

One option is to have the translations reviewed by a professional. There is a fee involved, but my company would be happy to pay if it would benifit the result.

My main objective here is to stop the back an forth translation from dutch to dutch... :-)

This is not my call. But my opinion is this: the translation system is open, this is a good thing. But what happens if you translate a phrase? How is the improvement migrated to the production instance? How do you really know if it's an improvement? This is somewhat unclear to me

In this system everyone can suggest new translations, but there's no quality control in it. I'd like to have something like that in place.

Hiring a professional translator will not solve the back-and-forth translations. Quality control will.

Will quality control solve the issue? It might if it is done by a pro... That is the reason I suggested to have it reviewed.

We can continue to translate as we are now Klaas, but leave the final decision to a third party.... --> quality control.

@ Emily: Is this a matter of decision making? You might ask yourself: what are these guys wining about? Well, :-) we both take our own language very serious and so do most of our fellow inhabitants. When I propose to people to use RTM, I do get the remark: 'translation is so... Hollands'... I regret this because it is an issue that keeps flemish people from using RTM. I would love to hear: 'nice stuff, can't live without it anymore...'
