Hi,

Yes, that worked for me too, but the communication seems to be only one way.
I mean, I can make changes to the tasks from RTM, and these do appear in Thunderbird. But then if I modify these tasks (or add new tasks) from Thunderbird, these changes are not reflected in RTM...

Any ideas?

yea. this seems to be the only way that rtm works w/ ical (one way sync)

i have the same problem. but it should be possible to sync the task feed, otherwise the "solution" is not fitting...

check out the lightning/sunbird Remember the Milk provider. it adds two-way support for basic creation and editing of taska, but the functionality is very basic, i.e. no due due dates, reminders, etc are there yet. You also have to have a Mozilla add-ons account since it's a very early version. Not perfect, but it works, and I'm sure it will get better as it is developed.

wow and here I've been trying to figure out how to get the add-on working with Thunderbird 3beta/Lightning 1pre.... well task viewing... same 'issue' where the ICS is a one-way sync. but it is better than nothing.

The addon seems to be dead, latest upgrade 2008 and no support for Thunderbird 3.
Now is there any solution to sync (not only read) RTM with Thunderbird/Lightning?

There is a recent addon for TBird 3 wich works. I've tested it today (13 May 2010). Found it at the Add.On page ot TBird --- But it is Listed as Experimental--- (http://z6joker9.com/remember_the_milk_provider-0.0.15-sb+tb.xpi)
There are some facts which do not work. = For Example: The starting date of the Task is not the right one

Using rabbittail's link above, I have done it two ways and both have the same result.

Using the ical link off RTM's Settings/Info tab, or choosing the RTM option in Lightning when adding a calendar - both show me my RTM tasks list but neither allow me to add tasks through Lightning. The second option actually worked less reliably because it kept disappearing in Lightning and I'd have to force a calendar reload to make it show up again.

I am assuming that if you pay for RTM, you would be able to write to the site, but not sure... If anyone finds a solution, I'd love to learn about it.

Correction - the RTM option when adding an ICal in Thunderbird/Lightning does work if you follow the process all the way through and follow the directions....however:

1. The calendar times out at some point and all tasks disappear. You have to manually "reload calendars" to get them to show up again. I've looked everywhere for an automated way to reload calendars, but can't find anything.

2. Once you close Thunderbird/Lightning and then reopen it, the RTM calendar gets corrupt somehow. The name you gave it disappears and it's grayed out. The only way I could fix it was to delete it and go through the process of adding the calendar again. So you'd have to do that every time you open Thunderbird up.

So the cool thing is you do have write permissions with this method, but still a couple of bugs to work out. I just leave my Thunderbird running all week, and reload Calendars when I need to see / edit my tasks.

I haven't been able to find a copy of the provider which is compatible with version 3.1 of TB. Using iCal is definitely only one way sync, which seems to be the story with ALL of the different Tasks services I've tried so far. :-(

Integration with Thunderbird and Lightning is essential - people use email all the time, you can't expect people to jump around between 4 different pieces of software. Please include a Thunderbird extension for RTM!

Seems to be a reasonably popular request... I'd like to add my voice to the request for an extension for Thunderbird to sync with RTM. I've given up on Outlook and without two-way sync with Thunderbird, I might have reconsider my RTM subscription.

I too am looking for Thunderbird/RTM two-way sync.

I use Thunderbird 3 on Fedora 15 as my main mail app, and use Google as my main calendar, with Thunderbird integration (several calandars).

I'd really like to get RTM integrated with it too.
