Tasks keep duplicating themselves

I should have 80 incomplete tasks. I noticed that for Today it was shown as 600. I logged onto my account to delete the unwanted duplicates. Now I have 2,546.

How do I delete the never asked for duplicates without ending up with even more duplicates?
