Would it be possible to add a to-do for the future? For instance, I want to remember to do something next year, but I don't want it appearing on my list for the next ten months.

I want to be able to say: "I want to do this *starting* on X, due on Y, don't show it to me until date X"

I can see why you would want this, but you could put a tag on those items of "someday" and then filter your smart lists to exclude "someday" items.

This idea is considered similar to "Option to hide the Sent list", and all votes have been transferred to that idea.
