Is this a service for the long haul?

I love this application, it is just amazing (yes I know I don't even have a pro account, maybe if I get a iPhone hehe).
This service is pretty much free, and some people have actually paid for the Pro account.
Seeing as its not super appealing for many to pay for it, will RTM survive with this current model? I'd hate to see it bust!
If you look at other online services, like 37signals products, they charge $24/month!
What do you guys think? Am I missing something?

I sure hope it sticks around for the long haul. I think it will. $24/mon. is quite steep. I wouldn't mind paying for the Pro version once I get the real feel for all of it and when there is enough in the Pro version to warrant it.

Enough in the Pro version to warrant it?! I think there is already enough to warrant paying for the free version! Not that I think the free version should go away, but seriously, how much more can they do for a couple of bucks a month. Your baseline for paying or not shouldn't be the features in the free version, but if the same free version service and features warrant a reward for their hard work.
And I really do hope RTM is around for the long haul because nothing else is comparable!
Now that I've finished preaching, I going to upgrade to a Pro account!

I'm with thewhisperer. Who thought being a pro at something could be so cheap!
RTM rocks!

steve, that's my point. How is it viable business? Will this cool app be around in 3 years? hehe
I mean, there are what, 2-3 fulltime employees?
80K x 3 = 240K
240 000 / 25 = 10K pro users!
10 thousand pro users, and that's not evenly including other expenses like servers etc.
I hope things are going well!

80K? I get the strong sense you don't follow the economics of these web startups. Keep costs low in the beginning, build up a good service, and see payoffs over time that reward the lean years when you build it is the plan of so many small firms. For all we know, Bob spends his days temping and delivering pizza so he can afford to code all night.
Once he gets bought out by MicroYahoogle, all that hard work will be richly rewarded.

ranbarton, hehe, true, but they do have a pro feature and I'm sure lots of people have signed up.
This is a great service after all, and if you own a iPhone I can see why you would want to go PRO!

I've been using this service for a couple of years now, and I went pro the first day I could. The team really deserve this to work out for them.
