I think it would be handy to get a summary list of overdue tasks emailed each day.

Interesting idea -- would others find this useful?
We could always look at having this as an option.

This would be a nice feature, but there should be a way of turning it off.... so, imo, making it an option would be the best way to go

I agree with tmadge - I think this would be very useful but woud like the option to turn it off.

And perhaps to go even a few steps further with this idea, consider the following:
The overdue list could have a sub-option of "Include overdue tasks in daily summary for X days." Where X is the number of days a task is past due.
The next step being to move this number to the task itself, so that you can specify this on a per-task basis.
The reason this idea comes to mind is because I'd like to be reminded (pestered) to complete a task if it's past due, but I'd like to have it only pester me for maybe 4 or 5 days. At that point if I don't have it done, I'd rather not get pummeled with reminders because chances are I've got other more important issues ... like maybe I'm lost in the Bermuda Triangle or something :-)
Anyhoo, good idea.

Having the ability to turn it on/off would be ideal. You dont want to spam yourself :)
I am just finding that once a task is past due, it pretty much gets forgotten unless I actually log onto the site and check my Task list, which isnt always practical.
I have strated flagging them for follow up in Outlook, but its a feature that would be nice in RTM I think

says:A summary email of the pending and overdue would be cool. Planzo is able to send you a daily agenda, which is a nice idea. It'd be great to crank out a list every day and know that was what I need to do.

Every day or every X day or Every sunday or something like that.. with the same or similar options you have for a task due date.

I'd even like a daily e-mail overview of all tasks (that's how the Yahoo task module works), where you can click on a task to call up the details. This of course depends on how many tasks you have, but I think a combined switch like the following would do:
[ ] Send daily task overview
....[ ] Overdue tasks only
Thanks

Anything (email reminder, creating a list, ??) that would let me know both overdue and current tasks would be great. As Mark and ernal noted above, once the due date passes, the incomplete tasks seems to fall into the abyss, never to be heard from again. (I suppose I could just DO the damn things when they're due, but what's the fun in that?).
Is there anyway to rig the search feature to give you tasks due in the past? For instance, those due two weeks ago through today's date? Then I could just create a list and go directly to it each day. (I'm sure I could actually get most things done if I had them in front of me for two whole weeks...)

Christine -- sure, try searching for:
dueBefore:today
You can also view a combination of your overdue tasks and those coming up in the next week with something like this:
dueWithin:"1 week of today" OR dueBefore:today
You can then create a Smart List with this search.
We'll be looking at ways to improve the visibility of overdue tasks (including possibly having an option where overdues could be included in the daily reminders).
Hope this helps!

yes, it does - thanks!!

says:I also think a daily summary would be great. I think listing completed items as well would be good.

Thumbs up to daily summary.

says:Just what I was looking for. When it's overdue, it falls off the radar.
Maybe link it to the priority as in:
- Remind me for 5 days about my Priority 1,2&3 overdue tasks.
- Remind me for 2 days about my Priority 0 overdue tasks
May be overkill. If the notification includes overdue tasks for x days, that would be great.

very useful to be reminded for overdue tasks as part of daily reminders.
+1 vote from me

says:I agree - I definetely need to be reminded of overdue tasks and when I'm on the road overdue items effectivly drop into a void.

Emily, what became of this one? Can't find it discussed any more.

I agree. Both "daily summary" and "overdue" email options would be nice

says:Since the search syntax is already so powerful, I can create a search to give me what I want....so....
Just the ability to email the results of a search once a day would be sufficient.

so this is going to be a new feature or what? let us know for god's sake!
Posted at 6:12pm on April 17, 2009
says:Yes, please. The one feature missing from RTM that would make my life complete, would be another option in the Reminders screen:
If the task has a due time, remind me...
-At the time the task is due
- __ before the task is due
- __ after the task is due
...or something like that. Perhaps it could be set on a per task, or per list basis? That would be so ideal, I'd just about faint.

says:A daily emailed summary of due and overdue would attract users (like my brother) who find gootodo a little lacking, but absolutely depend on receiving a daily list of things he has committed to.
Double points if the user can write his/her own css for the email formatting.

Definitely the only thing lacking from my RTM experience is a summary of tasks overdue along with the email telling me what is due today.

says:this would be a great feature! Please add it.. My email inbox is the first thing I check in the morning and having all my items in one place makes it that much easier me to keep track of things.
