What is the ETA for S60 Nokia phones ?

We're not able to announce timeframes for particular software/devices (sorry!), but we'll be developing future sync support based on the feedback we receive (Windows Mobile happened to be one of the most popular requests). If you'd like to see sync become available for your favourite software/device, please let us know what you use :)

I would like to see syncing for SyncML standard, almost every cell phone on the market right now supports syncing using SyncML, I think a large number of user would profit from this.

Slightly off-topic: When you visit a website on a phone does it leave the phone type in the header (I don't have a phone to test this with)?

This is what I have been looking for! Does it sync RTM with pocket outlook (like oggsync does with google calendar) or does it contain all tasks within the RTM app? Thanks

Ran, thanks :) We'll be looking at the possibility of providing some kind of trial for non-Pro users (it's a great idea).

In the meantime, it's possible to download and install the app without a Pro account (to make sure that it's compatible with your device). As a non-Pro user, you can do everything with the app except for actually make it sync :)

I've just tested it on my Samsung i600 and it works flawlessly - thanks for a great tool, but I'd really appreciate some tweaks to RTM itself, like projects, even more.
Anyway, keep up the good work!

David, yes, it syncs with the 'Tasks' app that's in Windows Mobile (the MilkSync app purely does the syncing between the Tasks app and RTM). Hope this helps!

Ugh. I've used Windows Mobile for the last half decade. Now that I've recently turned over a new leaf and am purging my life of MS products (and just bought a Blackberry) this comes along.

When do you think MilkSync will be ready for Blackberry?

BTW, WM is slow and requires rebooting daily. I've never turned back.

Jeremy, we'll be developing future sync support based on feedback that we receive (unfortunately Windows Mobile requests outweighed BlackBerry!). We've been hearing from some pretty passionate BlackBerry users though :)

Emily, THANK YOU for this. I opened RTM this morning, saw the new feature, and immediately upgraded to a pro account. RTM's been fantastic for me over the last year or so, and I'm so glad to contribute when features like this are developed. Great work, good job, and way to go!!

I would, however, put in a bit of a vote to get a more RTM-like interface for my tasks list on my device, though. The long check list is rather intimidating, and filtered, I feel like I can't keep track of everything at once. Would love tabs (maybe on the side?) for each list as well as inclusion of my smart-lists.

As far as I can understand photojen's informations, Milksync does not even support smart lists and tagging? what's the point then? While on my way, I need my actions list on my phone, and nothing else.

Using http://m.rememberthemilk.com/, its easy to access your smart lists on a mobile phone. I have a smart list for errands and have a bookmark especially for that list. Why synch?

MilkSync syncs with the Tasks application that comes with Windows Mobile, which unfortunately doesn't allow filtering by Smart Lists or tagging :(

If there's enough demand, we could always look at developing our own tasks application for Windows Mobile (and possibly other devices) so that we could support features like this.

I'm glad to see a Pro feature. As an AT&T 8525 user, running one of the best (heh) WinMobile smartphones, I thought this would be great. Thanks for that.

However, I must agree with photojen that there is absolutely no advantage to me to working with WinMob's craptastic task interface. I use RTM so I don't have to use Windows Tasks. If I had a PDA and had no choice but to work offline when on the go, that would be another story, but right now, the mobile web interface to RTM is the best option for me.

Similarly, I'm not interested in Outlook integration, because I hate the way Outlook manages tasks. I use RTM because I like the ways it's different.

What I'd really like is an app that actually lets me manage the tasks either offline, but in an RTM framework, or online but with fewer page reloads. What really slows me down when working on the mobile is the number of dialup-speed pageloads required to do anything. Particularly since the mobile version seems designed for phones rather than smartphones, with only 10 items per screen, it's slow to get to the view I want to see.

I'm still happy to be a Pro member, even if I don't use this feature. I might request, though, that you clarify on the download page for Milksync that the application only synchs with Windows Mobile Tasks (the application called Tasks), and doesn't let you actually run RTM on your smartphone/PDA. That was a big disappointment, and I was confused, as it's not explained on the download page.

Anyway, keep the good stuff coming. I'll probably be rocking an iPhone soon, so that's my vote for the next Pro feature.

People, MilkSync is but a door.

I agree with justin in that your marketing of this new feature severly limited the perceived scope. It took me some good minutes to figure out what was MilkSync all about.

It's an opensource plataform for synchronizing with any piece of software designed with it in mind. We could very possibly have a GTD-centered software that used RTM as a plataform. Now that's cool.

I'll put in a vote for a Java App for mobiles. Something like the GMail app for mobiles, but it would need to store tasks offline.

Justin & bzpilman, I apologise for the confusion. I've reworked some of the text on the MilkSync page and added a bunch of info to the FAQ -- hopefully this will help to provide more information about how the sync application works (it also describes some of the limitations, as Windows Mobile Tasks and RTM don't support the exact same set of task properties). I'll continue to update this, and am happy to answer any specific questions that anyone has about its functionality.

Again, I'm sorry that we didn't have all this information available in the first place -- we'll try to do a better job in the future of introducing and describing features like this one.

I've mentioned it in an email but it would be worth putting in the FAQ that WM priorities and RTM priorities are not an exact match.

WM allows High/Medium/Low
RTM allows 1/2/3/None

MilkSync pushes both 3 & None to WM as Low.

This is only a problem, if like me you use None on RTM as Normal.

I just tried the Sync as I just moved from my Blackberry to a Windows Mobile 6 phone (HTC S710).

I have to admit that without Smart Lists it doesn't serve me any purpose personally.

I too would vote for an RTM Windows Mobile app rather than the sync with the very limited WM Tasks app.

Oh I agree, an RTM PDA app would be an NICE improvement, but we'd still like a choice to use that or the regular PDA task app. Imagine duplicating most (oh c'mon ALL) of the interface of RTM on a PDA including tags - SWEET!

Add me to the Palm list and the Outlook list.

I think going to Outlook is important as that is really the only ubiquitous integrated contact management/calendar/task manager for the desktop. If there was another I'd be interested but all of the Mozilla stuff is disjointed and doesn't sync well. So it's Outlook for me right now.

If you decided to sync to ListPro on WM, I would like that. It allows filtering, and could be set up to sync all the fields you have in the online version.

Either that or develop your own WM app...

It is a great tool as is. I use it with IE on my WM machine.

I think an RTM application for Palm OS would be a great idea. Initially syncing would have been cool, but access to smartlists via tabs or something would be way better

I'm so much wishing for this for the Windows Mobile 2003. I bet I'd be switched to this in an instant. It'd be much easier organizing my tasks, and to have an 'after 1 week' or so would be so much more worthwhile for me than the standard 'daily/weekly/whateverly' dates.

SyncML support would be fantastic (currently using a Nokia N73, possibly upgrading to N95 8GB soon).

I've been thinking about writing a PyS60 (Python for S60 mobiles) script that would sync with RTM and list tasks from particular smartlists depending on location (cell ID or GPS) to provide context (home, work, errands). I like the thought of having my most important tasks listed on the phone's front screen, and simply ticking them off using the phone's built-in task manager as I go.

Needless to say I haven't got around to producing a prototype yet.

To have an RTM app would be great, particularly if it optionally allowed offline capabilities similar to Google Gears. Mobile AJAX would also be very cool!

Installed MilkSync yesterday, and while I agree with the general sentiment that I'd rather have an RTM app than use the built in tasks, I wanted to give some feedback on sync:

1) Please don't have milksync come to the foreground ever time is syncs. My phone is generally locked and after a sync, i now have to unlock it and click ok, before i get my status screen back

2) Don't pop-up a modal dialog on a sync failure, especially not the first time it happens. Connectivity is rather spotty in certain parts.

Other than that, thanks for keeping my tasks in sync when not a computer. Keep up the good work

MilkSync is really cool, thanks to Bob T Monkey!

I don't mind using the built-in tasks, as I don't have many, and don't use many of the tasks properties, at least for those tasks I want to sync on my PDA.

The only real drawback right now is not being able to sync smart-lists. I use smart-lists very, very extensively, and I'd like to be able to choose them for sync.

could you add WM 2003 SE in the list of PDA OS supported ?

I have a fujitsu pocket loox 720 which is alive and kicking as always.

I use it everyday

it has 6GB storage ability (only) for the moment.

I do nearly everything with it

it is waiting for its RTM mobile sync app !

It was coming to the foreground on every sync. But then i rebooted my phone (oh, isn't it just like any other windows) and since then it's been sitting quietly in the back.

But having the error not come up as a dialog at least as an option would be great. I constantly run in and out of coverage (including some parts of my office). Thanks

sdether, would it be possible to check that you're closing MilkSync by going to 'Menu' then 'Exit'? Even if the MilkSync program is exited, it will still run the sync process in the background, but it should not pop up if there are any errors.

S60 Please!!! I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing the pro account once Symbian is supported. I also wouldn't say no to an Outlook plugin or something for the office :)

I have been pretty quiet about MilkSync, mentioning only that I would like Palm support, but Gmail's IMAP announcement has brought this back to the front of my mind.

IMAP, you say? That's for email, and this a site about todos, right?

Well, yes, but... With my email in Gmail, I have had no use for a desktop client (given POP's drawbacks, but I can imagine using GMAIL-via-IMAP a lot). If I am using Gmail via IMAP, then I will be using Apple Mail, and by the new year, I plan to be doing that via OS X 10.5 Leopard. Apple's plans for Mail in Leopard include adding notes and todos to the program. The todos tie into iCal. So all of a sudden, I am very curious to see if we can get MilkSync or its kin to run on a Mac, acting as a 2-way, syncing bridge between iCal and Mail, and RTM.

I do not know the platform breakdown of your users, but here on the forum I sense a bunch of Mac users. You would know exactly the proportion via your server logs, I imagine. I bet if you could pull this off, you'd have a bunch of new Mac users flock to your banner, as this would be very, very cool.

I hope I explained that clearly. This is something I'd really pay double extra for, and I think it would be a very valuable Pro market for you. Many more Mac users as a block than any flavor of the chopped up cell/smartphone market.

[And for razvanr, above, this sort of syncing would work to an iPod, too. You can get RTM data into an iPod via iCal and iSync today, but it's one-way, read-only.]

There is now a nice little freeware application for Leopard Macs that serves as a face to these Mail/iCal to-dos. If we had some Mac/iCal/MilkSync action, this would be a great way to meld RTM with the desktop.

I have been reading forums for days trying different ways to get my blackberry to sync. I have a syncml client ready to go. I have outlook integration... but alas... I am left in the dark again.

I don't mind using the online browser version, but there are way too many clicks to mark off a task, and the spacing is way off for the page so it is hard to see it all.

I would really like to have it in my built in todo list! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE... I'm begging... on my knees now... start a syncml server. You'll make all the blackberry users happy, and it appears a lot of other people too!!!

Sure I would like a nice little java app like google's gmail... but you are only three people... a server option is way more feasible. PLEASE! :)

I second the vote for ListPro synchronization. Before I saw MilkSync, I was actually thinking of writing a small app to grab my tasks off RTM and convert them to a ListPro list (so that I wouldn't lose them if I went on vacation and didn't have Internet access). But I will be content for now with putting in my vote for that :)

I'd love to see SyncML support. Many phones support this natively and there are plenty of SyncML clients to sync with other apps/devices that do not have SyncML support built in.

I'm a milksync subscriber and it works without fail but a major drawback is syncing task notes from PDA to RTM which isn't supported at present (except for the first time the task and note are synced from PDA to RTM). From RTM to PDA works fine but not vice versa. Please please implement this feature!

It seems like it would be easier to develop separate RTM apps that run on WM and PalmOS and BlackBerry, than to go through the trouble of syncing RTM to a separate application which you have limited control over, and then you are stuck with the limitations of the app that you are syncing to. Sometimes it is easier to create a new wheel then to try to make one wheel work with a different kind of wheel. Not that I am suggesting that it is a good idea to try to re-invent the wheel.

Old thread, but any solution to simply filter by smartlist on WM would be helpful. Even if you brought it across to the mobile device as a real "category" simply so I could bring just the important Lists (@Call, @Home, @Errands) when I'm not at a computer.

I can always use the m.rememberthemilk.com interface, but I have a feeling I'll wind up back in my Moleskine soon...

I am sure that someone has already posted this, but an easy solution to the iPhone problem (and likely others) is to have a server that can act as an exchange server.

See how nuevasync.com does it for contacts/calendar with the iPhone, it is very seamless.

I have a Nokia N78 which is another S60 phone in the N-Series. Would be great to have an app or sync ability for that phone too. Maybe I can do it via iCal on my Mac?

But like you, I use also the @Call, @Computer, etc structure, and for the time being my windows mobile is totally useless to me because I get lost among those 96 tasks, and dozens of categories.

SyncML support please, so that I can sync with my "dumb" Nokia 6300. I realise that increasing numbers of people are getting iPhones and smart phones, but there is still a big market out there for people who have "dumb" phones that they get "for free" with phone plans.

Because RTM doesn't have this feature, I have instead moved to using GooSync. I'd love to move back to RTM, as its web interface is light-years better than GooSync's.

From Palm WebOS news, I quit PalmOS, even Palm let this OS die. I just move to Nokia E71, so I vote for S60!

One more vote for S60, and even more votes (2?) for SyncML! This is seriously on it's way to becoming a showstopper for me, using the otherwise great RTM.

It works with the most phones and you don't have to install anything for that.
