Danny, sorry to hear that you're still experiencing problems!

Would you mind trying it out in Safari and seeing if it works there? This would help us to determine if it's a browser-specific issue, or something related to the Internet connection.

Also, do you know if you're accessing the Internet through a proxy or are using a firewall?

Emily,

Safari remembers me just fine, so it seems it is a Firefox 2.0 issue. I am not accessing through a proxy, or a firewall, as far as I know.

For the record, it does it with Firefox 1.5.0.4 too. That is, the RTM module forgets that I am logged in when I refresh my Google homepage.

I did some more comparisons.

Flock remembers that I am logged in
Bumper Car 2 remembers that I am logged in
Opera remembers that i am logged in (though the module barely works in Opera)
Camino remembers that I am logged in
Omni Web remembers
Shiira 1.2.2 remembers
Shiira 2.0b1 remembers

So, that leaves only Firefox as not being able to do this, both 1.5 and 2.0.

And finally, I disabled all my Firefox add-ons, with no result. It still forgets I am logged in.

I hope this all helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Danny, thanks for testing this! Quite strange that it's still not working in Firefox.

One more thing to try in Firefox 2.0 -- can you go to the address bar and type:

about:config

Then, search for:

network.cookie.cookieBehavior

What's listed in the 'Value' column?

If it's not 0, can you please change it to 0 and then see if this fixes the problem?

I had the same problem with Firefox 2 on WXP.

I changed the preference to 0 and the problem has not re-occurred.

However, the cure may be worse than the disease. I am not to happy about accepting 3rd party cookies.

Hopefully Adblock Plus will be enough to keep this under control.

Like Owyn, I'm not sure I like the fix... if this ever gets resolved, will you please post an announcement somewhere ("Improvements to Google module!") so I can set this back to 1?

Glad it's working for you now :)

Just wanted to post a quick explanation -- when this setting is 1, Firefox won't allow cookies to be set in iframes. Due to the way that Google Personalized Homepage works, the Remember The Milk gadget is contained in an iframe -- so this setting needs to be 0 for the login to work currently.

If you're using an ad blocking extension or third-party software that has changed the setting in Firefox, it might be possible to get this working by adding 'www.rememberthemilk.com' as an exception in the software instead of changing the value to 0, but this would depend on the software.

Actual behavior in FF must be different than as documented there.

I am using Adblock Plus with EasyList and EasyElement. ABP status shows no blocked elements on Google personalized home page so there should be no impact on RTM and therefore no need for a whitelist.

PS: Great forum. Lots of thought obviously went into making it part of RTM and very readable / usable. Little touches like not requiring a second sign up to use the forum make a huge difference to new users.

Looks like Firefox changed it's behavior in this area between FF1.5 and FF2.

Confirmed that this problem did NOT occur in FF1.5 with Privacy -> Cookies -> Originating site only enabled.

network.cookie.cookieBehavior = 1 in FF1.5 after preference set.

This config setting persists through an upgrade from FF1.5 to FF2. i.e. If it was set in FF1.5, it will still be set in FF2. It is not set in a clean install of FF2, and, can only be set via about:config in FF2.

Ooops. Spoke too soon. Just needed to leave it long enough and the logout occured in FF1.5 with pref set.

So, looks like a Firefox 1.5+ symptom. Maybe earlier, but, I have no easy way of testing back before 1.5, and probably not too relevant now anyway.

I was unable to make the fix work with FF2.0/XP.

I logged in with IE and then closed and re-opened Google Desktop.

That made the RTM Desktop gadget work.

The one thing I noticed is that login box didn't tab between the username and passoword. I saw some posts about setting that in the options and I second that.

I'm so excited about this!
