Default due date on smart list (web version)

Hi. I want my default list to show tasks which have a due date of today or older, so I've created a smart list called Current, which is "dueBefore:tomorrow list:Inbox". So pretty much what the Android app's "Today" list does. I can't see a stock way of doing this in the web version without using a custom smart list.

However, now if I add a new task via the web, it default to no due date. I'd like this to default to today. Is this possible?

Although helpful, this only works in the web-interface. On iOS-devices doing this search doesn't show you the actual Added dates, only the tasks that were added in the specified time-frame.

I second the request for being able to filter/sort/search on Added dates across platforms. And while you're at it, it would be very helpful to have similar functionality for Changed dates, to see when was the last time I touched a task because I did some work on it, or have my list sort on the date I last changed a task.

I had the same issue once, for me I updated the timezone on my Android but not my laptop. Shifting timezones when travelling doesn't work very well.

It's best to just stick with one timezone and well, when you're traveling and far away, avoid using the words "today" and "tomorrow" and instead use the date of the day you want to put the task on....

Preserving URI in task's name

We don't have a built-in way to do this, sorry. You could copy your list of lists (heh) from the Settings in the web app, then paste them into a word processor and print them from there.

It sounds like one of your Android devices may have an incorrect timezone/location set; if those don't all match up, your tasks may not display correctly.

Traveling may be tricky as well, as Remember The Milk doesn't support shifting timezones, sorry. :( You should be able to update your Remember The Milk account timezone as well to keep things in sync.

Due dates on Androids out of synch

Why is it that RTM on my Android devices doesn't always seem to know what day it is? I have RTM on an S3, a Galaxy Note of course on my laptop. It's Thursday evening and I enter a task on one of my Android devices - It gives me the option of "Today" or "Tomorrow" or "Sunday". Somehow there's a day missing. I roll all tasks over to "Tomorrow", but on Friday morning when I log onto my laptop at the office, all those tasks are showing as "overdue".

Entering tasks from my laptop always seems to get the correct date.

Is this some sort of time zone problem? I also travel a lot and the dates get even more out of shape then. It appears that RTM doesn't pick up the "device time/date" when I've changed it to the new timezone. A hassle when I'm setting my tasks close to midnight for the "next day".

Unfortunately we don't currently support shifting timezones. If a task's due date is set in one timezone, it will be due at midnight in that timezone. If you travel to another timezone, even a 1 hour difference could cause the task to be displayed on the wrong day.

Tasks displaying for previous day

I'm traveling and changed time zones on my iPad. Now all my tasks are displaying one day early. If I manually change the time zone back to Chicago, my tasks reappear on the correct date. I only went from Chicago to Seattle, not over the International Date Line! What's up with that?

If I add any Priority to any of the tasks it returns, the task disappears. If I refresh the Smart List, it appears.

If I remove 'dueBefore:"tomorrow 00:00"' from my Smart List, the tasks persist upon Priority changes. So something is buggy with the "dueBefore" operator -- why would it bring up tasks, then fail to return them, although I didn't touch the date?

I'm passing your feedback on to the rest of the team; we take all feedback seriously as we work to improve Remember The Milk.

In the meantime, some more general tools may help. I'm not completely familiar with the different accessibility tools out there, but the following may be of some help:
* Browser zoom / increasing the text size
* Computer options for zooming the screen
* Computer options for increasing the contrast of displayed colors

Hopefully that will help somewhat, but let me know if there are any other problems we can research at as well!

There are plenty of tools that will rate the contrast of web sites and programs.

REALLY! Light Grey text and icons on WHITE backgrounds.

Remember the Milk has to rate as one of the most unreadable sites on the web.

I'll also try using "na" tags. I think his definition of a next action is anything without dependencies was very helpful to me.

My understanding was that one should have 50-100 projects. That seems like a lot of lists. I think I will stick with my current approach of having lists for projects that capture the project goal statements.

How to use "Next Action" concept for GTD

Currently, I create new projects by defining a task which I maintain in a separate list. I add a tag starting with "+" or "-" for work / personal projects. I then create various actions associated with that task, assigning a context (e.g. @Home) and priorities.

I do not currently designate one as "Next Action." Should I do that, or is it OK to have all identified steps showing up? Should I create another tag "next_action" and apply it to one of the steps, then apply it to the next step once I've completed the first? Or should I use priorities, with only the next action having a priority?

Couldn't you avoid re-logins for the last 5 or 10 most recently used IPs instead of just the last IP? I usually move from home, to office, to mobile, to friends and, finally, back home. Each of these requires me to log in again. I do not think I am the only one with this issues.

Facebook login not working

Our system does request you to log in when it appears that you're logging in from a different location. This may happen for you with Opera Mini, since it uses Opera's servers to contact our site (so the IP address may be different each time).

If you're using a smartphone or device with a built-in browser, let us know if the same problem happens with that browser. Otherwise, maybe it'd be possible to try not using Opera Mini for a day or two to rule that out. (If it's just happening on your computers, it could be a browser problem; these steps could be helpful.)

How to avoid to re-log in when using multiple devices?

Is there a way to get around this problem? I do not mind the occasional forced login, but having to do this three of four times a day is tiresome.

That's correct: at this time, notes simply become part of the shared task just like any other task property. The author's name is not marked automatically, and any user who is sharing the task can edit or delete the note.

Issue with iGoogle Gadget

A quick comment: the new android version offers the ""Picker" option for setting due dates. Unlike the Basic option, it does not, as far as I can see, all you to revise the due date to "Never." Until I figured out that the Basic picker does allow a Never option I was stymied. Maybe a "Never" button in the Picker screen?

I agree that this is a pretty major issue. I have a "repeat after 1 month" task that I just happened to complete March 31. I was thinking it was about time to give my dog her Frontline and I found in a search that this task wasn't going to show up again until May 31. So this isn't just an issue if you want to repeat on the last day of the month - it can also hit you if you have something that happens to slide there unintentionally.

Now that the timezones match, resetting the due dates on the iPad should correct them on all platforms after you sync.

For example, on the iPad, you could use multi-edit to select all your tasks due today, then tap More > Edit Due Date. "Today" should be selected by default, so you can just tap Done. This will initiate a sync and reset the due dates for all the selected tasks.

Out of sync

I've just upgraded to Pro and am having a tough problem.

I synced my iPad with RTM - which in turn synced with my phone. Unfortunately I hadn't setup my timezone on RTM.com and when the sync completed I had the tasks in RTM.com and the iPhone app all with the dates 1 day ahead.

So, I changed the timezone in my settings on RTM.com and resynced. But, still on the iPad I have the correct date, but RTM.com and iPhone are one day ahead.

Please can you help?

While it's not currently possible to have the Added date show on all your lists automatically, one trick may be to create a Smart List just for this purpose. For example, try searching for the following:

addedBefore:tomorrow

This will show all your tasks, and their Added dates. You could then save this as a Smart List and refer to it when you need to see Added dates. Changing the sorting of the list may help find tasks more quickly.

Just to support mattrz: I am also missing the "date added" option. I enter the "date added" as a note to the task each time. This is quite annoying and slows things up considerably. Isn' t there some quick and dirty solution to have the "date added" registered automatically? If you can search for it, it is already there somewhere. Also, from your description, it sounds like you may be able to accomplish what you need by using a combination of your email client's filtering rules and our Inbox Email Address. For example, you could set up your email client to watch for a particular sender and then forward the message your Inbox Email Address when it arrives.

As far as I can see you can only sync tasks. Is that correct?

I made some search about this and found some posts that are one year or more than one year old already, so perhaps updates may have already made this possible: is there a way to dynamically search for overdue tasks for over a period of time (e.g. 2 weeks overdue)?

The way i currently do this is (dueBefore:today and dueAfter:"4/14/2013"), but the date obviously needs to be regularly updated manually. The perfect way to do it is using (dueBefore:today and dueAfter:"two weeks ago"), only if dueAfter accepts "negative" dynamic dates.

Is there any other way to do this kind of search?

Marking a task as complete via email?

the RTM address is definitely a bit more cumbersome, but I just went ahead and made contacts on my devices so hopefully that won't be a huge issue.

I would like to know how to mark a task as complete via email? I see that i can reply and change the due date easily enough but replying with "done" "complete" or "completed" doesn't seem to have the same effect.

You can create an "All" Smart List by clicking in the search box and pressing Enter. (Searching for a blank will show all tasks.) Then you can save that as your "All" Smart List.

You could also create one just for today/before today by searching for

due:Today OR dueBefore:today

and saving that as a Smart List as well.

No, incoming tasks are added to the Inbox (or the default list if someone has changed that) but there's no way to override that. That way you're always able to look at your Inbox/default list and see all your incoming tasks before moving them elsewhere.

Changing the time to 19:30 again will ensure the correct time.

Small problem, but annoying that I have to retype the time twice every time.

It's one advantage is that the box is slightly bigger, so that I can now see 11 lines instead of only 6. But it still cuts off after that -- and there's no scrollbar, so the only way to see later tasks is by using Tab to move down one task at a time and then Shift-Tab to go back up.

But the part that's worse is that it's no longer simple to have multiple widgets for different lists. I can set them to be different -- but whenever I update one by completing or postponing a task, the other one resets to be the same and I have to open Settings and change it back..

I've also been having trouble getting the widget to remember me, so that I have to reenter my name and password and log back in every time I open my browser. I'm still fiddling around with protecting cookies, and maybe that will help -- but checking "remember me" definitely doesn't. I was getting a new saved password every time I logged on, each one with a slightly different URL that didn't work the next time. Very frustrating!

Keep in mind that without GPS your location may not always be the most accurate, so you may want to make sure your location radius is wide enough. :)

Shared tasks remain in their list, and can still be edited by anyone they're shared with (including the person who shared first).

Sent tasks, on the other hand, are sent to the specific person, are no longer editable from the Sent list, and can only be deleted by the person who shared them.

The ability to complete the task is shared in one case (shared task), or transferred in the other (sent). That's probably the most basic way to distinguish the two actions.

In the mobile apps, "Never" is available as an option from the date picker.

Switching Chrome to Incognito resolved the issue, so I disabled all my extensions and turned them back on 1 by 1. On my system the conflicting culprit is the "Measure It" extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/measureit/aonjhmdcgbgikgjapjckfkefpphjpgma

If you want to get a task on the last day of the month, I've figured out that you can do it with six tasks. Can't seem to get it down to fewer than that!

Set up one for the next month with 31 days. So right now I'd set it up for March 31st. Set the repeat to monthly. This task will show up only on months with 31 days.
Set up a task for 28th February and set it to repeat yearly. (You'll just have to postpone it in a leap year!
Set up 4 tasks, one each for the 30 day months of April, June, September and November. Set them to repeat yearly.

It's kind of a pain that it has to be six different tasks and not just one, but this will get a task to show up on the last day of each month.

If you did want it to be the 30th on every month except Feb, then you can do it with just two - a monthly one for the 30th and an annual one for Feb 28th only.

One other option may be to import the whole list of study weeks using the Import Email Address. This would let you copy & paste the list of study weeks into an email, so you wouldn't have to type each one into Remember The Milk directly.

Each app supports them a bit differently. In the case of yarDesktop, they have some different shortcuts (similar to Smart Add, but not the same).

In FaRR Remember The Milk, you can type rtm options to get to the Options, where you can enable Smart Add.

Aside from two separate tasks, you could duplicate a task, set it to repeat, or use sleeper tags to accommodate that though.

See recurring tasks as separate items

But I have a standard list (not smart list) with bills and their due dates (all of which are set to recurring) Problem with this though it only shows one entry for each with the recurring icon and if I choose complete on anyone of them and then it shows me the next time it is due afterwards.

Is there a way to show when the next one is actually due and not have to 'complete' the task before it shows me when it is due again?

Reason for this is, I want to work out how much the total costs of bills are after a certain period. The only way I can see how to do it, is actually complete the task, check when the next one is due then complete that one and then repeat, once done, I go and uncomplete them all, but this is very tedious and also I have multiple bills I need to check this for.

Hopefully someone knows a smarter way of doing what I need.

Data transferred wrong direction

When I log on to my web acount on my desktop, all my changes are gone--it restored it to the way I last left it on the i-Pad. 1, the new posts flag only seems to stay on until I've looked at one new post then they all disappear - so no way of browsing for new posts.

2, I'd love to be able to subscribe or follow a post - this does not seem possible.

I can't help wondering that there might be more forum activity if the forum software was a little more up to date.

There are loads of useful posts from some very experienced users but it feels like hard work trying to find them or follow them.

Bug: incorrect date calculations

Today is 31 January. I added a task and set a due date with textual form "in 1 month". The expected result was either the last day of February, or some of the first days of March.

To my surprise RTM proposes... 31 March!

Doing some experiments it gives the same "off by one month" result when setting due date "in X months" when X is odd.

My guess is the algorithm works as follows:
1. Using some calendar library, add X months to the current date.
2. Set the day in the resulting date to the day of the current date.

which apparently fails, when there resulting (+X) month has fewer days than the current day of the month is.

Interestingly, the bug occurs through web access, but not over API.

On the other hand, I want to know why I have a special task in a list when I'm not acting on it for x days/weeks/months.
I have many tasks that people are waiting for, but that don't have a due date.
Knowing that I have the task "review document x" that is already 30 days old is intersting compared to a task that was just added yesterday.
I'm not sure how this could be accomplished, but the priorities (1,2,3) work with colors.
Maybe Bob comes up with a neat idea.

Depending on your requirements, you may want to try repeating the task each month on the 28th, or each month on the 1st to ensure that it repeats correctly. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

When I set Repeat to "every 1 month" it doesn't repeat at the end of the month, it jumps to the next date at the end of a month that has the same number of days it was originally created in.

I created it originally for January with a due date of "End of month" and repetition of "Every 1 month".

When I complete the task, it doesn't jump to a due date with Feb 28th like it should, but to March 31st. Then again to May 31st and so on through all the months with 31 days in it.

Just thought I'd let you know!

The first line in any multi-line note becomes the "title" of the note. Unfortunately URLs aren't converted to links when they're in the title.

If your note contains nothing but URLs, you should be able to work around this by entering a blank line as the first line in the note.

As you mention with notes, there are a few different workarounds you may use currently. Aside from notes another popular one is to tag a group of tasks with the "project" or "major task" so they can be referred to in group.

The list ID shouldn't exactly be able to be guessed, but it's not terribly obfuscated. Keep in mind too that publishing publicly would mean the list is able to be searched by search engines too.

If you're looking for something more obfuscated, it may be preferable to pass along the RSS or iCalendar feeds. Those have more obfuscated private addresses, but that's probably okay to share with your wife. :)

I received your email message on this and I've sent a response, but for any other users running into this problem, it's likely that your email client is automatically wrapping the line at a certain number of characters.

Some clients allow you to specify the number of characters per line while others do not give this option at all. You may want to check your email client's settings to see if you can adjust this.

I was able to get this working with one of my feeds, so here are a couple things you might want to check.

First, be sure that Private Addresses are enabled in Remember The Milk. You can find this option under Settings > General. This ensures your Atom feed is public and can be read by other applications.

Also, be sure you're viewing the completed items for your list when you copy the Atom feed URL. This will get you updates on completed tasks rather than incomplete tasks.

When you paste the URL, be sure that it has the very long, random token value (just like the example URL in the recipe) and that this token value is not truncated or altered.

Now, when this is imported by an external calendar app, say Gmail, it is shown as having a duration of 1 hour due to the DTSTART/DTEND lines. This is somewhat annoying.

How come RtM doesn't create a correct DTEND line when it knows the duration of the even?

I had Twitter working and sending me a DM with my "overdue" list. But with only 140 characters, I could have about 4 items and I'd have to make sure the titles were short.

I also got IFTTT.com to work. Created a recipe that sent me an email with the atom feed of my list. But that meant I had to click on the URL to go see my list. Maybe there is another IFTTT.com recipe that would work? (something that would take the contents of my atom feed and put them in an email. Then send an email at a certain time each day??)

I know I'm being nitpicky, but I'd really love to be able to send the contents of a list in the body of an email.

Any ideas would be helpful.

Due date set, but no reminders active

For my use, it's pointless setting a due date and time, but have no alarm reminding me of the task. So is there a way to enforce that all tasks that are created or sync'ed over to my phone, will have reminders activated?

Personally I think case sensitivity is unnecessary but if it is going to be there then it should be consistent and enforced when the search is created or saved.

I searched the forum and found this to be a known error on the to be fixed list but that was years ago, I've created a new post as the original one is closed.

Now I know about it I wont spend ages trying to fix future searches or moaning about a poor app but fixing it might just save some other poor newbie some time and give a better initial impression.

To end on a positive note, loving the app(s) (iPAd, iPhone, web and Blackberry) and enjoying learning how to progress from a basic list keeper to a GTD type implementation which I've been reading about and practising in many ways for a few years now.

Tasks that repeat "after" do not keep copies of the notes across instances; each time you complete a task, a new instance is generated.

You may be able to get the results you want by changing the repeat to "every"; the task will continue repeating based on the due date, but you will get your notes across the tasks as well.

I also often attach notes to the tasks to remind me exactly what I want to do. I keep finding that when I complete a task, the next time it is due, my note disappears. It freaked me out a little because I really packed some info into those notes. I was relieved to find the note in the completed instance of the task and uncompleted it. This is kind of tedious. I want the notes to persist and can't see any advantage to the current practice.

That's correct, only standard lists can be selected when choosing which lists to sync. This is because Smart Lists are essentially saved searches and don't actually contain any tasks themselves. A task may appear in multiple Smart Lists, but it belongs to only one regular list. The task will be assigned this list's category when it syncs to Outlook.

How to sort lists by date added?

According to David Allen, prioritization is often unproductive, and I agree. I want to drill down through my inbox in the order the items were recorded, like I would do with a stack of papers, starting form the bottom (oldest first).

If I have a task with a due date, it goes on my calendar. My tasks in RTM don't get due dates.

Until now, I've only got this horrible workaround of adding "due today" to each item in RTM as its added. This allows me to sort by due date, which in my case is actually the "created on" date. There simply has to be a better way. When will RTM have this very basic sorting functionality, finally? We've been waiting for years.

A coule of things, Tag will still show in the list when doing Smart Add while tasks exist (even completed ones) with that tag. If you go and delete the completed tasks and there are no uncompleted ones with that tag then the tag will vanish.

On the app for Android, you have to delete them on the device - that doesn't sync with the site (annoyingly) and it's not exactly intuitive how to do it! You were almost there, there was one more step to go.

Go to Home
Go to Tags
Long press a tag and choose Edit Tag
Press your phone's Menu button and Delete Tag will pop up at the bottom of the screen.

There are probably a lot of different opinions on this but, personally, I don't see anything wrong with using your "CompanyX" list as a kind of "work inbox". :)

As for displaying your task list during meetings, if you just need to show the tasks to your team and not modify them, you may want to look into publishing your work list. When you view a published list, it's displayed by itself so your personal lists won't be shown at all.

The search criteria you gave isn't filtering out repeating tasks specifically, so the problem is most likely that the task is due on Tuesday and is being filtered out by the dueBefore:Monday clause.

One solution would be to use the isRepeating search operator to show repeating tasks regardless of their due date. For example:

(priority:1 AND status:incomplete) OR (dueBefore:Monday AND status:incomplete) OR (priority:2 AND status:incomplete) OR (isRepeating:true AND status:incomplete)

Problem with Layout in Firefox

I've been using RTM on Firefox for a long time, but today upon logging in the layout is entirely messed up, with everything essentially going downwards. I changed no settings to my knowledge.

Problem is not there in Chrome. I tried disabling plug-ins and starting in safe mode, but the problem persists.

One strange thing is that at the top I have a "offline" icon and two arrows - one for going online, the other for going offline - and a spinning dial that says "synchronizing". I do not have Google Gears or anything like that, so I'm not sure what this is about since I thought RTM doesn't have an offline function.

I also tried changing a setting or two (switching from http to https), but nothing worked.

Show Task on smart list only on the day that it is due

I am wondering if there is some kind of way to exclude that task from my context smart list until the day that it is due. Other tasks, with or without due date I would like to show up on these lists all the time. I wonder if there is some way in RTMs clever settings to facilitate that.

Multiple 'Inbox''s ??

1. a search on NOT timeEstimate:"> 0" , select them all and add 10 minutes estimated time.
2. i search for dueBefore:monday thats where all the postponed tasks come together, so i reschedule those the low priority ones to a later date.

My goal is to keep the today list under 20 tasks.

You're not able to set a default minimum time estimate unfortunately. One thing that may be helpful, however, is that if you do assign time estimates and then search, the web app will show you the total time for all tasks returned by the search.

This may not help you determine which tasks need to be rescheduled, but it might help tell you if you're over the limit for the day, for example.

If you're interested in getting a bit more involved, you could also use our API to build a custom tool as well.

It depends a bit on your browser. Since you mention "start", I assume you're using Windows, so you can do this in Internet Explorer or Chrome.

In Internet Explorer, you can drag the cow icon from the Address Bar to your Taskbar to pin it (or to your Desktop).

In Chrome, you can install our web app from the Chrome Web Store, and then right-click on it from your New Tab/Window screen to choose "Create shortcut".

1) I'm using an iphone and ipad. Is my native calendar app considered ical? Reason I'm asking is because I can't figure out where to manage subscriptions...as in delete some of them. And I don't see a place to manage them in my calendar app nor on the RTM web interface...or anywhere.

There's not currently a search operator to limit the results to a maximum number; sorry. I can certainly understand the benefit!

What may work is to limit the number of tasks that fit a certain Smart List. For example, I have one that shows upcoming tasks as well as undated tasks that are priority 1, and I try to limit those priority 1 tasks to just a few. :)

The end date for the series is not currently included in the iCalendar feed, so these repeating events repeat past their "until" date. This issue is on our list to investigate.

Once all the tasks are completed and the series stops repeating, the event will disappear entirely from your calendar.

This applies not only to Remember The Milk, but to any web app (e.g., Gmail) that was not designed for storing passwords or that type of sensitive information.

For example, the following search will show you all the tasks you added in the last 3 days:

Google Calendar integration for items with no due date

But some of my items don't have a due date. Is there a way to get these items to show up as part of my Google Calendar?

-->what are the tasks that are due for that day (either the ones from RTM or that are already on my Google Calendar) AND also
-->What items I entered in RTM that don't have a due date, but need to be worked on

Your data can be encrypted in transit, but it is not encrypted on RTM's servers. There is no way to selectively encrypt some information the way Evernote allows you to do. Therefore your data theoretically can be seen by others who have or gain access to your account.

RTM does indeed say not to store sensitive information like credit card info or passwords here.

Separate from passwords and other truly sensitive information, you can paint an extremely detailed portrait of yourself just by the notes you keep. The real question is, well, is anybody really interested in YOU? Are you protected by the anonymity of the crowd? Is anyone willing to look up your data specifically?

If you worry that someone (like the police, for example) will go to RTM and access your data, then your data is not secure. If however, someone is randomly looking for interesting stuff among RTM users, then your data is probably unexceptional (no offence meant), and the chances of them reading your information is probably fairly small. But that's a judgment call for you to make.

If you are looking for a cloud wide, easy to use, task manager or note taker that encrypts all stored data, let me know - I haven't been able to find one. I eventually chose daily ease of use over the potential that my data will be seen by others.

Evernote provides a sort of band aid with selective encryption and an application called B-Folders encrypts everything you type in. But both are essentially storage apps. Neither has the task management features of RTM.

list:Work AND due:today

Any tasks you add to this Smart List will automatically be added to your Work list and have a due date of today.

I check for location and duration, many probably for tags and priority. Due date is used by some for all tasks, I avoid adding made-up due dates if there are none.

The addedBefore:tomorrow (always true) makes the detail box show the date the task was added.

The smart lists are not really lists. A task can belong to several different smart lists (or none at all).

Basically, if you mostly use smart lists, you have two alternatives:
1 Keep all your tasks in the inbox, but never look at them there
2 Move processed (meta-info added) tasks to another regular list leaving your inbox empty. Maybe you move Sometimes/Later task to yet another regular list in true GTD fashion.

The only way smart lists affect the task themselves is when you add a task when you have a smart list open. If all the smart list criteria are un-ambigouos, the task will inherit all the smart list criteria.

It's not possible to send in a completed task by email; sorry.

It's not possible via Twitter either, but it would be possible to add a task and then to complete it immediately from the same screen. For example, using our Twitter commands:

d rtm You complete me
Task "You complete me" added.

d rtm !complete You complete me
Task "You complete me" completed.

That may be a good workaround for you. Hope that helps!

Why? Well I keep all my task in RTM and sometimes something comes up that I did and I want to record it. Sending in via email is fast but if I could mark it complete at the same time then I don't have another step later.

1. Log out of your Google account and out of Remember The Milk
2. Open the Remember The Milk login page
3. Click the "Sign in with your Google account" link
4. Enter your Google account credentials
5. Enter your Remember The Milk account credentials

You can use the same Remember The Milk account each time in step #5.

Going forward, all the accounts will be linked and if you're logged in to any of those Google accounts, you'll be logged in to Remember The Milk automatically.

Why can’t I click the blue tab that I named “Pay” and see tasks that I’ve tagged “Pay”? I appreciate any help you can offer me.

You can see the address associated with a location by clicking on Settings, then on the Locations tab. Select the location to see the address listed on the right.

The address that's saved is the geocoded version of your search, so it may be possible to include a floor or suite number if it's part of the location's "official" address, but it's not possible to associate other data such as a contact person with a location.

when I want to add a location I type the address of the location in the address bar and click the marker to save it afterwards. When saving the location you can see the address on the flag. But you don't see it afterwards. Is it somehow possible to get the exact address of a flag? If not it would be a useful feature, because on the map, you can see the name of the street but not the number.
Absolutely cool would be if I could save additional information to a location, like floor number and a contact person or something.

While some calendar apps (such as iCal) support authenticated iCalendar feeds, others (such as Google Calendar) don't. For applications that don't support authenticated feeds, you'll need to use the Private Addresses option instead. This page gives a bit more detail about it.

After making the update the new version is working fine in web browsers on multiple devices, but the change isn't reflected on my Android devices (even after ensuring they have been refreshed).

To confirm that it wasn't an issue with the changes to the list syncing I setup a new list with the new search. It showed right away on my Android devices, but showed different results than in the web.

Additional Detail: Android devices are running stock OS: Asus Transformer with Ice Cream Sandwich, Nexus S with Jelly Bean, NexusOne with Gingerbread. All running current version of RTM app: 2.0.11.

I don't have easy access to an iOS device to compare the results, but could make arrangements if necessary.

Current theory: Android handles searches differently than Web, specifically as it relates to the "tomorrow+1" variable.
Is this a know issue? If so, is there a work around?

When you perform a search with one of the "added" search operators (such as addedBefore:tomorrow) you'll be able to see the "Added" date displayed in the task details box at the right. Select a task or hover over it to see these details.

Is it possible you're looking at the date shown on the right side of each row in the task list? This will always be the due date when viewing incomplete items. The Added date is only shown in the details box.

1. Rename your current "Location" location to "Old Location".

4. Select all results by clicking on the Select "All" link (or pressing the keyboard shortcut, 'a').
5. Set the location for the selected tasks to be "Location" rather than "Old Location".

At this time, it's not possible to include notes or tags in reminder emails, sorry. Reminder messages will indicate only the task name and the due date.

When choosing when to receive your reminders, you can request a daily reminder message which will include tasks due today or tasks due some time in the future (eg. 1 week from today) or both.

Alternatively, you may want to look at the Weekly Planner view that is available in the web app. This will show all the tasks due in the upcoming week. While you can't receive this automatically by email, you can view it on the site by clicking on Overview, then on Weekly Planner.

As you mentioned, organizing your work and personal tasks by tag would be the best workaround. Then you could use the tagContains search operator.

For what it's worth, this would be the same step in Smart Add, for example:

Call Freddy ^tomorrow #ps-Phone

would add to your current list or a tag if you had one.

Searching multiple lists at once

I use smart lists a lot to see what I need to do next and end up having very long or statements such as,

Ideally I would like to be able to search for lists via a string e.g. list:contains:''ps-'

The lists I have keep changing so its laborious to keep manually updating the search criteria. I could also label every single task with a tag or location but that seems like an unnecessary step as I am using a list to define the task already.

Any ideas how to acheive this?

Not only is this inconsistent but it's a tad dangerous, especially when combined with the lack of a recycle bin.

I'd love a last day of the month repeat. That's when I usually do my monthly review. I've had to set up 6 tasks instead of 1 in order to get the reminders.

4 annually repeating tasks for April, June, September, and November.
1 annually repeating task for February 28th. (Postpone it a day in a leap year.)
1 monthy repeating task for the 31st of the month - only appears in January, March, May, July, August, October and December.

CalDAV and Mountain Lion

On my Mac I am using Fantastical which is pretty clever accepting natural language entries for events. It can also create reminders and I should be able to set up Remember the Milk as a CalDAV account in OS X 10.8.2.

However, Mountain Lion fails to connect to RTM's CalDAV server - I get an error message when trying to add the CalDAV account used for the Siri connection ("Server with secure communication is unavailable"). So close but no totally there.

Is there anything special regarding RTM's CalDAV account? Is there a secure way to connect or convince Mountain Lion to connect to insecure CalDAV servers?

Every once in a while I have to add a task which should be repeated in some custom intervals (1 week/ 1 month/ 3 month/ 6 month) So is there any easy way of doing this? Defining custom repeat intervals or probably using smart add? (I guess somthing like "busyCal").

There's no keyboard shortcut for moving the priority down (from 1 to 2, 2 to 3, or 3 to none), but you can use the '1', '2', '3', and '4' keys to choose the priority you want.

It's also possible that the issue may be related to mismatched timezones. Remember The Milk doesn't currently support shifting timezones, so when you're watching for circumstances that cause the issue, traveling across timezones may be a factor as well.

Task list reverts back to previous version

I've asked for help on this several times by email. I can't seem to find a fix, and it just happened again. I update all my tasks and move some to future dates. When I close the app there are none past due ( which is why it's so easy to see when this happens) . When I open the app again poof....I'm back where I started before the update. I'm only using my iPad. My laptop is shut down. It makes me nuts! I love the app but when this happens I'm afraid to trust it.

You can use the isRepeating: search operator to find tasks which are repeating. If the browser is still having trouble displaying this many tasks, it may be helpful to start by deleting or archiving older completed tasks first. For example, this search will show tasks completed more than 2 years ago that are not repeating:

status:completed AND NOT completedWithin:"2 years" AND isRepeating:false

Delete old tasks

I have 34K completed tasks. I suspect this is the reason, why is the loading of the RTM often too slow. Is there a easy way how to get rid of old tasks without deleting the ones that are still repeating?

Even when I try to display them all, the 34K tasks is apparently too many to load them all.

The original problem I had: I wanted to share multiple tasks (tasks filtered into a list using search-operators; in other words, a Smart-List) but for some reason it was not possible.

The Solution I found: you first need to filter out of this group (or Smart List) all of the tasks that have already been shared with the person in order for the 'share' action to work.

+++DETAILS+++

The Situation in which The Bug arises:

1) I have filtered my tasks by doing an 'advanced search' using some particular criteria (ie. tag:groceries)

2) Within the resultant (Smart) list, there happens to be a few tasks that have already been shared with 'Jane'. I want to share them all with 'Jane'.

3) I click on 'Select/All', then on 'More Actions.../Share With...' and then I share it with 'Jane' who is in my Contacts and with whom I am already successfully sharing many tasks.

4) Jane then informs me that she is unable to see ANY of the tasks that I have just tried to share with her.

The WorkAround: you need to filter out all of the tasks already shared with 'Jane' in order for the 'Share' action to work

1) I filter my tasks by doing an 'advanced search' using some particular criteria (ie. tag:groceries),
...BUT THIS TIME: I add to the search the search-operator "NOT sharedWith:Jane"

_The search thus looks like: " tag:groceries NOT sharedWith:Jane "

3) I click on 'Select/All', then on 'More Actions.../Share With...' and then I share it with 'Jane'.

4) Jane is now able to see the tasks.

Summertime still buggy (after 4 years)

I've tried to smartadd European summertime for 2013 (March 31st) in both Chrome on my desktop and in the Android app. Both failed.

Smartadding this from www sets the time to 01:00am. Adding this in the Android app makes it crash (or rather: smartadding it without the time, *then* trying to set at time to 02:00, makes it crash). Setting the time to 01:59 goes well.

This issue was reported both 3 and 4 years ago and is still troublesome.

You could set up an Excel file with say 5 lines, having the due date as a separate field and then concatenate the lines and send the whole thing to RTM using the bulk import adress: user+XXXXXX+import@rmilk.com

This in combination with the smart add syntax should have you going in no time!

Then you can re-connect it with your Remember The Milk account via our login page.
