Hi philbowell,
Any task with a due date set to today should show up on the Today section of the Overview. As for how to get today's due date on your tasks....

What is your Smart List criteria? Depending on whether it's explicit or not (e.g. no NOT or OR or relative search operators) tasks added to that Smart List may inherit the due date.

Also, you can use Smart Add syntax to make it due today pretty easily, e.g. "Task name due today".

The smart list has these properties.

dueBefore:today OR due:today OR priority:1 OR priority:2

Each morning I go through my tasks (in a smart list called Next) and mark any tasks as today using priority 2. Then I can prioritise my Today list using priority 1 to push things due to the top.

I don't like giving artificial due dates, so I'd really like to be able to add tasks to the overview today section (so I can see them easily on my iPhone) without having to set them as "due today". Only things that are really due should have due dates, not things I'd like to get done today (but aren't imperative that I do them today).

The Overview is just on the website and shows what is actually due today. You're like I am with the due dates, so you probably won't have that many listed as properly Today.

The iPhone app will remember which list you're viewing when you exit, so you should be able to use your Next Smart List pretty effectively on the iPhone without assigning due dates.

But to loop back to your original question, there's no way to show a task on the Today section of the Overview without setting it to be due today.

I must say that I also eschew the overview screen and go directly to a smartlist when I start the app.

dueBefore:today OR due:today == dueBefore:tomorrow

It'd be neat if we could set a smart list to be in the bottom navigation bar on the iPhone to make it easier switching between lists.

@david, Thanks for the pointer. I guess when I was refining the set up of my lists I missed the simple stuff.

@Phil You are exactly right - the ability to place a smartlist in the bootom app on the iPhone would be great. I also would love to have the count on the app badge driven by a specified smartlist.
