Custom URI Protocols in URL field?

jbowen says:
I've defined a custom URI protocol on my Windows machine, and when I access that custom URI by entering a URL in the address bar or clicking a link on a page, I'm redirected to an application (.exe) on my computer, as expected.

If I enter my link in the RTM URL field, though, it doesn't work.

Can the URL field be made to respect a custom URI protocol and present a 'valid' link? Ideally, that URL field should just let the browser decide how to handle the click...

On inspection, I can see that the RTM URL field changes my url from:

"ol:testing" to "http://ol:testing"

If I use the Chrome Inspector to change the link back (remove the "http://" from the link), everything works as expected.

Further update:

I just found that if I enter the url in this format:

ol://testing

...the link will work as expected in the *old* RTM web app, but *not* in the new one.

Hi jbowen,
Thanks for letting us know about this! I've added this to our list to investigate.

I'll let you know as soon as I have an update.

Thanks for your patience.

Currently we offer specific URI protocols in the web app, and others are not available.

We appreciate the feedback that you'd like to use these more broadly, and I've mentioned this to the development team. You can submit this in our Ideas forum too if you're interested. Other users could vote on it and/or comment with specific URIs they'd like to be included:

Let me know if I can help with anything else in the meantime!
