I have just registered on Remember the Milk, and every single time I try and log in I get an error message stating:
"Your account has been logged out"

I am on Mac OS X, Firefox 3.5.3, and have Google Gears installed.

We've been having some problems with the latest few versions of Gears (0.5.16.0 and later). If the site works with Gears disabled, we recommend keeping it disabled to prevent loss of data or problems like you're seeing.

If that doesn't help, can you try to open Firefox in safe mode to see if that affects the situation?
