Clicking on message icon in task doesn't load from search

I generally don't use my Inbox much, preferring to load a search that captures all my actionable items: https://mail.google.com/#search/is%3Aunread+OR+label%3Ainbox+OR+label%3Adrafts ("is:unread OR label:inbox OR label:drafts").

I've found that tasks from that view won't open the original message; I have to return to my Inbox first. Has anyone else noticed that?
