Google Calendar integration

dudewad1 says:

RTM and Gcal integration puts those little blue check marks on each day in the calendar--is there anyway to give my tasks their own even in the calendar?

That worked fine for me too. (Is this part of the startup guide or FAQ... if not, it should be, IMHO).

The problem I'm having with that is I have deleted all of my tasks from Inbox, but some of them persist in Google Calendar. I have tried unsubscribing to the list, and then resubscribing, but they are still there.

Further, new tasks I have added to the Inbox list are not showing in the subscribed list on Google Calendar. However, the state of the All Lists subscription in Google Calendar ~is~ current.

Everything is fine in iCal.

Having the individual list subscriptions are critical for those of use accessing Google Calendar from a mobile phone (via web browser), because that is the only way for RTM items to show up through that interface.

I should mention that I the changes I am look to see populate in the Inbox list on Google Calendar we made in RTM 10 hours ago.

Perhaps I'm still supposed to make individual lists public. Does Google Calendar still not support authenticated iCalendar feeds?

bluesgeek says:

Actually, the published and private URLs of my Inbox are identical.

Following on that, using GCal's add-URL function loads a lot of "provide a public address" responses, followed by "failed to fetch URL" popup. But if I keep at it, after about 20 attempts it takes the URL. Within minutes I get another popup: Settings Error, failed to import calendar from (URL)

I did have things sort of working yesterday. I had my Inbox showing up and RTM events populating the GCal interface. I'm not quite sure way it is responding differently at different times to the same actions.

The All List link tool from the RTM web interface does continue to work correctly.

I added the RTM WEBCAL url to google calendar.
(In RTM, settings > info > iCalendar Events Service (All Lists)

Any idea what the delay time is for me to see new entries in my google calendar generated from RTM?

It has been about 30 minutes, nothing.

bluesgeek says:

Well, that's nothing. I waited all day! ;-)

I have noticed all sorts or weird behavior. After gCal taking my RTM URLs last night and refusing them this morning and all day, it finally took them tonight. No events have posted to gCal since then though. My guess, is that you can't rely on gCal for current RTM status. Thankfully RTM has it's own web interface.

At t his point, I'm just happy to see my RTM URLs not getting spit out by iCal and gCal.

Everything is working well now, but with super-long delays on updating gCal. Nice service!

I am getting gCal updates on the ~single~ list about once every 24 hours.

The ~All~ List populates almost immediately. Very nice interface too. I prefer routine creation and maintenance of tasks through the RTM gCal All List link rather than on the RTM site interface.

Does anyone have any idea why the two list types behave so differently in terms of gCal updating? Thanks.

BTW, I'm really enjoying using RTM with dial2do

I did have to redo the URL link to the Inbox list on gCal again tonight because it hadn't repopulated in 48 hours.

Now populating about once every 24 hours.

By all list you mean which one? the one acessable by the settings menu requires a login (i think) and I cannot load it in Gcal.

Or do you mean the smart list that displays all tasks? That one I'm also experiencing difficulty.

I have various "calendar feeds", from live venues and such, and I have never experienced such problems. What the hell is wrong with this thing?

Considering this http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=38847 I guess none of them should work well. GCal as officially let me down.

Hey, that's google support link is a great find, ceno. I'll be sure to use it to report issues with refreshing of RTM "calendars:".

As to your question, I mean the default "All Tasks" smart list. That one works very well usually. I just love the interface. Editing right from the calendar. (Unless you want to edit notes, or batch process tasks, I like it better than the RTM site interface. I know, I already said that.)

The individual task lists seem to be refreshing in gCal about once or twice a day. It serves me pretty well in a timely refresh of postponing or new tasks if I do any postponing maintenance by 6pm.

** I would love to learn why the All Tasks calendar refreshes within minutes, but the individual lists only refresh once a day. Is that on the RTM side of things, or is it a different API that RTM has to hook into that makes the difference? **

Is there a way to get ALL my RTM items to show up in Google Calendar? Right now it only shows the events that are due on that day and (if I have it selected) the events without a due date.

I want to be able to see things that are due tomorrow or next week.

The gCal widget is great, but why doesn't it change the color of the checkmark if there are tasks on that day? There should be some sort of indicator.

@alanlindsay - Your suggestion has come up repeatedly over the last 2+ years, and Emily reports it is a limitation imposed by Google.
