Very Slow Startup

I have Gmail pinned as an app in FF. Beginning with version 6 and continuing with version 7, whenever I open FF (and Gmail loads on startup) there is a long delay while RTM loads. FF is pretty unresponsive while this happens and the throbber just spins on the tab (and any other tabs that are opening). The moment RTM finishes loading, all the tabs become responsive.
If I disable the RTM extension, FF and Gmail are responsive immediately on load.
I am using FF 7.0.1, RTM 1.0.6 and Gmail 24803427.
Is there anything I can do to improve the performance in this situation?
